ONE YEAR OLD STOPPED EATING HELP!!!!!!
« on: January 13, 2006, 16:52:37 pm »
Hello out there,
I wasn't sure where to to post this and hope some of you have advice for me.
My little boy has just turned one and for the last couple of weeks has really lost his appitite, we are lucky to get a few spoons of breakfast in him and the same goes for lunch and dinner.
We have tried finger foods letting him feed his self mushy food you name it we have tried it. Iwant to take him off formula and go on to cows milk but feel this is his only source of vittimans he has around 20-25 oz a day
He is very active has been walking for 6 weeks, but quite small 21lbs.
He seems happy in his self but I'm worried he can't survive on such little food, he used to eat every thing all the time from curry to cauliflower.
Sorry to babble but trying to give as much info as possible.
Hope someone can give me advice or just to know someone else in the same boat

Thanks for your time

ONE YEAR OLD STOPPED EATING HELP!!!!!!

Is it possible he's teething? Dd goes off her food when she is. Also I think...think... it's a pretty common thing around this age? They're pretty good self regulators. I think if he's drinking and not dehydrated and happy too it's probably a phase. Hopefully a more experienced mum than me will have some ideas too!

Like Sharon said, they're pretty good self regulators. It's pretty normal for toddlers' appetites to vary like crazy. I've learned to just go with the flow...normal kids don't starve themselves, so when Tyler decides to eat nothing but air for a few days, I don't push the issue. Also, with toddler nutrition, it's best to look at it in terms of what they eat over several days because of how much their appetites and preferences vary. If it makes you feel better, you can certainly hold off introducing whole milk until the phase passes, but even if you decided to go ahead with it, he'd probably still be fine (and might even start eating again sooner).

Of course, if it lasts more than a few days or he starts losing weight, that may be cause for concern, but it's usually just a phase!

ETA: Just remembered one more thing...toddlers usually start eating much less around the 1 yr point, so that might have something to do with it too!
