Introducing Homo Milk
« on: January 14, 2006, 03:07:43 am »
Hello,

My baby just turned one and I am still breast feeding 4 times a day.  Is this normal or have the majority of people weaned down their breast/bottle feeds?

My next question is when should I introduce homo milk?  Do I just offer it one day instead of a breast feed?  Is that how I wean from 4 to 3 feeds?

Hi Velvet,
At 12 mos, my lo had just dropped from 3 to 2 bottles a day.  Most docs will tell you that at one year, it is a good idea to start switching to sippy cup use (vs bottle).    Unless your doctor told you otherwise, it is fine to experiment with homo milk.  Maybe you can drop a breastfeed, and in its place offer homo milk in a sippy cup.

Good luck!  Hope it goes smoothly.   :D

Tyler was still taking 4 bottles a day at 1 yr. I started by dropping the bottle that he was least interested in (lunch) and I offered solids and milk in a sippy instead. You'd do the same with whichever nursing you decided to drop...just offer a sippy and meal/snack instead. I remember freaking out a little bit because Tyler just took little sips of milk, and I worried that he'd starve without that bottle. But we gave him a few days to adjust before dropping the next bottle and offered the sippy more often during the day, and he was fine. Good luck!
