Baths everyday?
« on: January 16, 2006, 02:58:59 am »
Hi, everyone-
Question about whether you all give your lo a bath every night like Tracy says to do.  My lo is 4 mths old (just about) loves to take a bath, but I'm concerned that that's overkill for his skin.  (although I also see the benefit to it because he will know what to expect each night.)  Wondering if any one else has had dealt with this.

Hi, there.  I only bathe dd every other day.  She loves the bath so much, though, that when she was younger and was sooooooo fussy, I would put her in a tub of warm water (no soap) and let her play with toys.  It was a lifesaver for us both through the rough months.

We usually do everyother night and the night we don't give a bath we do a wash down with a warm wash cloth.  One tip if you do bathe every night is use warm water, don't bathe too long.  Try and add a few drops of baby oil to the bath water and moisturize your lo's skin afterwards.  Winter is harder b/c the skin naturally dries out anyways.

We've always bathed Tyler 2-3 times per week unless he got really dirty. His skin just got too dry and it wasn't really necessary. In fact, we didn't bathe him anywhere near bedtime for quite awhile because it just got him too stimulated, so it wasn't even part of the bedtime routine.

I bathed Luisa every other day until she was about 6 months. Now she gets bathed every night, especially since she is crawling. She just gets filthy.

She rashes up pretty easily in the heat but her baths don't seem to affect her skin. I do use Amolin shampoo which is mild so maybe that's why. As was already suggested, you could try oil or a mild soap that is specially formulated for baby's skin. I don't use anything at all except the Amolin for Luisa's hair.

I have bathed my LO everynight since she was a month old and really started to love her bath. Now when I get her ready for her bath she gets really excited, no matter how fussy she was she'll calm right down and usually end up laughing. Its been a great way to calm he before bed.

Hi!

I bath DS every other morning and always have done. I like you worried that his skin would dry out also its not like they really get dirty at this stage. When they are a toddler and getting mucky all the time they probaly would need a bath everyday   but I would relax and do every other day whilst you can.

Maybe do the bath before tea (as part of activity maybe?) and have a whole seperate routine for bedtime that doesnt involve a bath if your concerned that DS needs the same routine every bedtime.

My LO hated baths in the beginning so we did showers with Daddy a few times a week.

Never had a problem with the dry skin.  Maybe because we turn down the hot water to about 99?  We also use J&J head to toe body wash and it seems to leave a silky residue.

Now DS enjoys baths, but I still think showers are easier.  We still only do 2-3 times a week even though he could probably use it every day.    I'm pretty lazy!

We've always done them before a nap or bedtime simply because he's usually warm, cozy, and sleepy right after.

I bathe my 6 mo twins every evening, using baby lotion afterwards. It was every other day when they were really little but now that we're starting solids...well things are pretty sticky and messy.  :)

Julie - how do you go about showers for babies?  I've wanted to try this but don't they get too slippery?  How do you manage?
