7mth old refusing solids!
« on: January 16, 2006, 13:15:31 pm »
Hi All

I have recently returned to work and since then my 7mth old dd has been a nightmare to feed at breakfast and tea times...!

She takes her lunch perfectly well no problems at all from Grandma who look after her whilst I am at work, but her breakfast and always her tea is becoming a nightmare.  She goes purple and starts crying... at tea time she wont ever take her firsts, but I can get her to have a fruit yoghurt etc for her pudding.  She is refusing foods that prior to me returning to work she ate no problem when we started the weaning process.

Is it me???? Its really starting to upset me and I am dreading meal times...

Any advice gratefully received...

Thanks
Lizzie

Babies go through lots of eating preferences and phases, sometimes because of teething, sometimes for no apparent reason. Remember this over the next few years...healthy babies don't starve themselves. Her main source of nutrition should be breast or bottle, so if she's still taking those well, it's okay if she doesn't feel like eating solids for a bit. Put her in the highchair and offer the food, and if she refuses, don't push the issue. Respect her appetite and take her down.

Most importantly, try to relax. She can probably sense that you're upset and you definitely don't want to turn mealtimes into a battle. She'll probably come back around when she's ready!

I agree with Melissa......relax!  Your baby will eat when she is ready.  My DD refuses solids at lunch.  She takes a bottle just fine and solids at breakfast and dinner, but just not lunch.  She is teething so that is probably the issue.  I was frustrated at first, but I was only upsetting her even more.  I finally just had to let go and be happy that she takes a bottle fine.  Hopefully it won't last long! :?
