When to drop a bottle?
« on: January 16, 2006, 18:31:48 pm »
I think my DD is telling me she's ready to drop a bottle, but I just don't know for sure.  She usually eats her bottles at 8am, 12pm, 4pm, 7pm, give or take a few.  But lately, she's been refusing her 4pm bottle altogether.  Sometimes she's even getting fidgety about her 12pm bottle.  I've tried playing around with her solids, but that doesn't seem to be helping.  So the past few days, I just decided not to force it.  So now she gets her morning bottle, early afternoon bottle, and bottle before bed.  She took 8oz this morning, which was good for her.  She also took a good amount at lunch, and ate her bottle before bed.  We do three solids meals a day, which she loves much more than the bottle.  Her doctor said he doesn't care how much solids she eats as long as she has at least 24oz of formula.  So far, so good.  Is this how they decide they want to drop a bottle, and are most babies on 3 a day by now?

My DD was doing this to me at 5 months she was feeding 7,11,3 & 7. Should would fuss at her 11am bottle i had to force 100mls (3oz) into her then wolf down her 3pm bottle and fuss again at 7pm bottle. She also was waking at her afternoon sleep as she was hungry for not drinking all of her bottle. SO we dropped a bottle and she is much happier and drinks all her bottles MOST of the time  :) She now has a bottle at 7.30am, 1pm and 6.30pm. I hope this helpful  ;)

My son has been fussing with his df and is refusing it.  I too am worried about whether or not he should continue on it since he will only be 6 months on March 7.  I am thinking about cutting out the dream feed and giving him solids at lunch.  Therefore he will get a bottle at 7, 11, 3, and 7...the 3 solid meals of solids at 8:30, 12:30, and 4:30.  Hope maybe this helps.

Hi

How long have you being doing the dreamfeed?

If you are going to stop, Noelle has posted 'instructions' on the bottlefeeding forum, it is now a sticky - it should help.

I have been doing the df since he was 1 month old.  now he is going to be 6 months and seems to be refusing it.  as for adding ounces during the day...he is already getting 8 oz in each bottle and I have no room to fill more ounces ???  I guess I am not sure what to do except add solids at lunch.  What do you think?  Thanks

I have the same problem with my last feed, he takes over 10oz and I have 10oz bottles!!   So I make up as much as I can in 1 bottle and a top-up in another bottle.  When we stop to burp and transfer the additional 2 - 3 oz into the bottle he was taking  ;)  works for us.
