Anyone else find that prunes don't freeze???
« on: January 18, 2006, 21:06:10 pm »
I know this is a bit wierd but I have just started making my own food for LO & whizzed up some prunes to freeze in ice cube trays.....

Everything else I made has frozen solid except the prunes, they are still the same consistency as when they went in.....anyone got any tips????

(I promise I'm not adding vodka too them to make her sleep!!! )

i have found this too and i thought it was just me.  i'm glad i'm not going crazy. (and no i haven't added any booze either :P )

if i put them in the deep chest freezer they will freeze but if i leave them in the fridge freezer they just never quite seem to freeze all the way and they thaw REALLY FAST as well?  i don't know why though?

i found that you have to add the liquid you simmered the prunes in (and even sometimes additional water) to thin it out. this works well.  otherwise i found i just dug it out of the ice tray with a spoon.  lately though i decided to make up enough for the week and leave it in a tub in the fridge - i figure as long as it is in a well sealed cntainer it is really like any marmalde or jam so i keep it for up to a week depending on how quickly we get through it  HTH

actually that is what i used to do - prunes and pears - the pears add that watery consistency that you need and both are good for constipation  :D

i found that same thing with prunes...didn't freeze as fast as the rest of the purees but if i left it in there a little bit longer it did eventually freeze.

Yes add the water you cooked them in and additional water if necessary. They don't go rock hard but they will be just fine. Firm favourite here in natural yogurt :-)

I always pureed them with the water they cooked in plus i would need to add more water sometimes.

It is trial and error but if you find the right consistency then they are ok.

I think i used to have it like marmite consistency.
