Is he good with a sippy cup yet? I found that ds understood the concept of using a straw once he had mastered the sippy cup. If you're willing to deal with the mess, you could always try it at home with a fast food cup/straw that has a lid. Ds wanted to tip the cup with the straw at first and then I slowly moved it so that it was sitting properly. He eventually got the hang of it....especially when he saw DH and I drinking out of our cups. He wanted to do what we were doing! All I can really say is to keep offering it to him and he'll get the hang of it. HTH!

he uses Avent sippy cup for his water/juice. but then you tip the cup to an angle so the drink will pass thro.

DS is very keen to drink from straw esp. when he sees us drinking from that. when i give the straw to him he just chew it... and squeeze the cartoon/cup ...

this is a task that is very difficult to explain to DS .... and you cannot really demostrate how to do it ... haahaaa.

I introduced a straw with a carton of drink. I held the carton and gently squeezed the drink into his mouth.  He very quickly got the idea that if he sucked he got more juice.

HTH

i introduced the straw around 5 months and dd loved it!  she also was very interested when i drank out of a straw and when i gave it to her she too just chewed on it.  so i showed her by putting my finger over the end and letting some go into her mouth, once that happened she sucked.  then i tried to give it to her normally and she didn't know what to do again.  i did it again with my finger over the end, she took it and smiled then i let her try to suck and she did it!  she has been drinking from a straw ever since!  good luck!

Thanks for the good ideas!  My DS just sits there with his mouth open expecting something to come out of the straw all by itself!  If he could figure this out I wouldn't have to pack the sippy cup when we go out to eat!

yeah !! DS knows the trick to suck from the straw .... i am sooo happy :D

i give him a carton of drink (i drink half of it first so the drink will not come out too easily) and squeeze a little to his mouth. and he got the idea immediately there is drink in the carton.

thank you all for your suggestions :)
