Am I overfeeding my 6 month old?
« on: January 23, 2006, 13:54:25 pm »
On an average day, he will have cereal in am (2 oz formula w/ cereal plus 1/2-1 can of stage one fruit), afternoon either one can of veggies or 1 oz formula w/ cereal plus 1/2-1 jar of stage one veggies, dinner is one can of veggies or 2 oz formula w/ cereal. Also, he will drink probably between 2-3 oz formula w/ his meals and his bottles are anywhere between 5-6 oz in between. I would say I go thru a bottle of formula (32 oz) in a little over a day. Is that too much? He does not wake up at night, sleeps 11-12 hrs and when he turns his head I know he is done. Sometimes he does not finish what I give him, sometimes he does. Does it sound like he is getting too much or is this normal? Thanks ;)

I don't think you're overfeeding.  If he were full he'd turn his head, which he already does.  My ds is 7 months and eats about the same except at dinner time he just has cereal.  Remember that your mommy instincts are the best guide-line possible and if he's happy, growing and sleeping well then why mess with a good thing! ;)

Your best bet is to keep an eye on his formula intake. As long as he get 26-32 oz per day (including what's mixed into his cereal), you don't have to worry about limiting solids. Some kids are just big eaters! Since he turns his head away when he's finished and doesn't have an upset tummy, it sounds like you're doing just fine!
