When to go from 4 to 3 meals?
« on: January 25, 2006, 03:53:50 am »
Dd is 11 months old and eats roughly every 3.5 hrs, for a total of 4 meals.  Each meal is first solids followed by a full bottle.  I'm wondering when would be the right time to go down to 3 meals.  Any thoughts?

Thanks.

you could try what works for my ds. He has a bottle when he gets up, then 2.5hours later, some cereal, with water or juice. Then, 2.5hours later, lunch with water or juice. Then, 2.5hours later, a bottle. Then, 2.5hours later dinner with juice. Then a bottle before bed. Phew.
In other words, 3 bottles and 3 lots of solids. Means they dont get as much milk, or as much indigestion as he is eating little and often, rather than many large meals.

Beril-

There's really no need to go down to 3 meals unless you think your DD will eat better that way. Babies and toddlers have tiny tummies that can't hold a lot of food, which is why even toddlers who don't take a bottle anymore will get a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack. Their bodies just aren't made to go as long as ours do in between meals until they're a little older. Take a look at some of the sample routines for older babies in the EASY forum or toddler forum and you'll see what I mean. HTH!
