A time for 8 months?
« on: January 25, 2006, 17:18:21 pm »
Hi... it seems that dd does not want to do  her morning nap at 9:30 anymore as she fights hard in crib an cries out loud. She usually wakes up at 7 or 7:15 at most. Can she handle 3 hours of A time? She looks tired but wants to play more and more. She is still not crawling so I guess with just sitting she doesn´t get tired. Should I just move her nap time to 10 am? She eats at 8 and then at 12 again and usually sleeps 1. 30 hours and 45 at 1:30. Can they be awake for 3 hours?

Dealing with the same problem here... I feel like it is time to adjust her schedule, looking forward to some advice as well.

my ds is 10 months. he wasnt in a "strict" routine until recently. even now, i find that his nap times vary from day to day. Partly this is because he is in childcare for 3 days per week, where he is allowed to sleep when he is ready to, rather than when they tell him to!

Just go with the flow. Try not to be too rigid, though - if she doesnt want to sleep, she wont sleep! i'd move her nap a little later. what about giving her a little snack at 9.30ish, then she's more likely to sleep after that for a little while. good luck

Hi -

Daniela I swear Lucy and Ximena are sisters from different mothers!!!!  :) :D

She is also having trouble with her naps.  Instead of fighting her morning nap, she only sleeps 40 minutes.  So I have been playing around with her awake time and I think that she may need 3 hours of awake time before her first nap.  It is hard to know what to do as I also feel that her waking at 40 minutes is out of habit but that is another issue.

On a good note, she is finally eating!!! ;D ;D ;D  She actually opens her mouth for food which is a huge accomplishment!  I am so proud of her.  I am starting to try new foods with her and so far so good!!!

So I don't have any real advice about the napping, but I guess since both girls are having trouble with their morning nap it is a sign maybe they are ready to be awake longer.

Let me know how you get on!  Kisses to you and Ximena from me and Lucy!

Thank you so much for the compliments on my little one. I think she is super cute as well. This is what is happening with the naps at the moment. (Still a work in progress mind you) She also seems to need 3 hours of activity in the morning so I  give her a bottle at 10:15 she eats, wind down etc... hopefully asleep by 10:30-12. In the afternoon the wake-up time is less;I give her a bottle at 2:15 hopefully asleep by 2:30-4.  Not far off this today... we shall see how it goes tommorrow.

I too have been struggling with a 30 minuteish morning nap - just this week we increased A time to 3 hours - he can barely make it, but he's finally sleeping 90 minutes at each nap.

He just started crawling this week, so maybe that helps to zonk him out also!  But he has now started fussing when I put him down - I guess he just wants to play some more now that he has freedom!

Just to put in my two cents.... ;)

My dd is six months and refuses to nap anymore before the 3 hour mark.  Often in the afternoons, she will go up to 5 hours before napping and be quite content.  She is very clear that she doesn't need a nap if I try too early, when she's ready, she'll sack right out.  Before we went to 2 naps from 3, her naps were getting very short and erratic and extending A time fixed it right up.  Sometimes she even only has one nap up to 3 hours!  I wasn't expecting that for another 6 months!!

Hello Everyone! My dd is also 8 months and we have always stuck to a schedule--but also have gone with the flow--if that makes sense. We put our lo down for her naps when she shows her tired signs. And she has been able to go almost 3 hours between nap times. So much, that we are currently tweaking her schedule so that her afternoon nap (the one that suffers the most) will become longer. She is awake in the morning from about 6:00-9:00am, then awake again from 10:30-1:30pm, and then again from about 3:15-6:45pm. It works for her--as long as we follow her cues. As soon as she starts yawning and rubbing her eyes (which for us is the true sign) we start the winddown routine. So from day to day it differs slighty.

My lo is also in daycare from Mon.-Fri. and she follows her EASY routine when she is at daycare--that way we can just pick up from where the care provider left off. It works great.

HTH a little.

Have a great day!
