When did your baby...?
« on: January 26, 2006, 03:25:07 am »
I have 2 questions.  Because DS1 and DS2 are so incredibly different in every way, I feel like a first time mom all over again!

DS2 is nearly 8 months old and has NO TEETH to speak of.  Not even a sign of teeth.  He doesn't even hardly drool anymore.  Is that weird?  DS1 had at least a half dozen teeth by this age and was done with 2 year molars by 13 months.  When did your LO get teeth???  And it is so frustrating because he is so wanting to eat anything and everything.  I feel bad for the poor guy.  So far, we have managed to get him good at graham crackers and banana pieces (besides jar food, or course)...

When did your LO start to hold his/her own bottle???  Again, DS 1 doing this by like 5-6 months, DS 2 not even a hint of doing it.  Just curious for the sake of being curious..
Obviously I know kids grow at different rates...DS2 is crawling and was rolling way sooner.

TIA!
Kelli

I had an early teether too, but I know a lot of babies who didn't get their first tooth until after they turned 1. Totally normal! For eating, it doesn't matter whether or not he has teeth, babies don't really "chew" until they've gotten some molars. Until then, they manage by gumming and squashing food against the roof of their mouth. Your 8 mo old can eat a lot of the same things we do...a good way to test is to put a bite in your mouth. If you can squash it against the roof of your mouth and get it to a swallow-able consistency, then it's okay for him. Obviously, avoid hard foods and choking hazards, and make sure that fruits and veggies are pretty soft until he gets the hang of it.

My DS never held his own bottle, and I don't know why. Lots of babies don't!

My DD was 10 months old before her first tooth, and my DS was 13 months old.  As for holding their own bottle, my DD was around 6 months I think and my DS was around 10 months if I remember correctly.

ryan had his first tooth at 10 months old. he managed to munch his way through most foods. he had no interest in holding his bottle untill well over a year old. he didn't crawl at all, he bottom shuffled at 13 months.
when he started to cut teeth they just popped out eveywhere , he never cut just one tooth it was two at atime and even four at once , he didn't really suffer with teething, just off his food for a bit. we are still waiting for 2yr molars , a few bad nights but i think they are very close to breaking through now.

My DS got his first two teeth at 6 months and since then there has been nothing!!

At around 7 1/2 months he started occasionally holding his bottle - he still prefers me to do it for him!

DS got his first teeth at 9 mo.  It's not uncommon for them to come in even later, as I spoke with a family member who told me her children (3 out of 4 of them!) didn't teeth until 11 mo.

Regarding taking the bottle, my ds didn't even want to touch a bottle once I started weaning him, even though I had given him bottles of milk on a regular enough basis during his infancy.  He has been drinking through a straw since he was 8 mo, though I don't let him do it on his own quite yet.  Why not try giving him a baby sippy cup, that way you won't have to wean from a bottle at all later on?  (at least, that was my ds's pediatrician's suggestion.)

DD got her first tooth at 10 months and my DS was 13 months old.  As for bottles, DD held hers by 6-7 months but DS did around 11 months I think (can't remember).

DS got his first tooth at 4 months, DD not until 6 or so.  DS has powered through his and now has 6 teeth by 9 months.  DD still has only 2 teeth at 9 months.  As for holding bottles, neither of mine show any interest in it.  Sometimes they'll grab at it to tell me "hey mum, I'm not done yet, don't put it down!" but no holding.  I wish they would so I could get a few things done, LOL!!

my LO is 8 months as well, and no teeth :) doctor says its a good thing, the longer it takes for the teeth to arrive, apparently. the stronger and longer lasting they are :)

My DS has no teeth still and also doesn't hold his own bottle. I would be surprised if he ever does actually.  ::)
