How much solids for 8 months?
« on: January 26, 2006, 21:49:01 pm »
Hellllllooooo... I was just wondering how much solids can a baby have? She is almost 8 months and can have lots of solids and she seems as she can eat all day long. :o  Here is her schedule:
8 am  -6 oz milk 4 oz fruit + cheerios
12 pm  -5 or 6  oz of veggies and protein + 4 oz of  dairy (yogurt or swiss cheese) and fruit + cookie + water
4 pm  5 or 6 oz of veggies and protein + 4 oz of fruit  + 4 oz of milk
8 pm -8 oz of milk

Is it enough or is it too much for her?  ??? Sometimes she can open her mouth on and on and have 3 oz more of fruit or veggies. Should I give her some snacks? At what time and what? i am afraid that if I give a snack she won´t eat for her next feeding. She seems pretty much hungry when it comes her feeding time.  Any suggestions or 8 month old routines? Thanks a lot.

The amount can vary a LOT between babies, so your best bet is to track her formula intake and go from there. At her age, she should be getting 26-32 oz of formula per day, since that should still be her main source of nutrition for the time being. You might consider cutting back slightly on the amount of solids you offer until she's closer to that range. You might cut back a bit at the 4PM meal and see if she'll take more formula then, and you can even start offering it in a sippy at mealtime. And if you mix any into her cereal, that counts too. It looks like you're doing a great job keeping her diet balanced and keeping track of how much she eats! Also, if you check the EASY forum, you should be able to find plenty of sample routines for other 8 month olds. HTH!
