Short naps and EASY
« on: January 28, 2006, 15:25:11 pm »
Milena is now 10 weeks old and taking shorter naps (45 minutes average). For the most part her routine is-
Wake at 7am and feed for BF for 20 minutes
Diaper and burp for 10 minutes
Play Activity for 1 hour
Nap for 45 minutes
Repeat for rest of day
This amounts to 2 hours and 15 minute intervals, if I feed her after her nap then her feed times are 2.15 apart. When she used to nap longer she was on 3 hour intervals. So, what do I do after the naps? She always wakes up crying (normal for her). She will ALWAYS take a feed (I think regardless of hunger) as I "fed on demand" for the first 4 weeks (prior to reading BW).

Hi Marian....

Does your little one go to sleep indepenently?  If she does, it's OK to feed before a nap vs eating as soon as she gets up as long as she goes down awake.  You'll just be tweaking EASY a little bit, which is perfectly OK  :)  Also, if if she can handle it, you could do 2 naps inbetween feedings which might stretch her feedings out to 4+ hours which is also ok. Though, I wouldn't go past 5  ;)

~The short interval feedings could be the culprit of short naps (short naps are sometimes a sign of needing to go longer between feeds)

~Another something you could try for the naps is putting her down a little earlier...as soon as you see her first yawn or signs of tiredness.  Sometimes overtiredness can cause short naps as well.

HTH  :)
