nap times
« on: January 30, 2006, 12:46:41 pm »
Hi i'm a first time mum of 3 weeks and would like to implement E.A.S.Y however i'm a bit confused, do all nap times have to take place in the cot or is it okay to put baby in push chair and go for a walk??  Or should that be done in A time??

I tried stroller walks for A time and my lo would fall asleep by the time we hit the sidewalk, messing up what should be her nap time later so I do the walk lined up with her nap time (started at 5 weeks). My lo will also fall asleep sometimes in her swing (which is probaby a bad thing) but I make sure I turn it off and pull her out to take to her cot. I think as long as they are comfortable for a good nap (basinet stroller-yes, swing-no) let them nap sometimes in places other than their cot.

hi!
Congratulations on your new lo!!  Time flys!!  I'm already wishing to be in your shoes again!!  :o  Who would ever think??!!  Anyways, I'd also try to go for stroller walks when it is about her nap time.  But i'd try not to make it a habit, or at least make sure one or two of her naps are at home in her crib/bassinet so that she does learn to sleep in her own quite space not always on the move (makes for a more restful sleep).  Also, about trying to wake her.  I'd try changing her bum maybe to wake her.  Since she is still so little it helps to feed her more during the day to help keep the calories up during the day so hopefully less night wakings.  Try your best.  Good Luck.

I had the same problem with a sleepy lo at that age and yes, I also would wake though I found she wouldn't take much unless she woke on her own so it did mean more frequent feeds in the day and sometimes, if I waited 15 minutes she would wake on her own. Not sure how your lo's sleeping at night but mine started to sleep 5 hour stretches so I used to set an alarm clock to wake me to wake her to feed! Found out afterwards that I didn't need to do this ::) so, if your lo's sleeping any stretch at night you don't need to wake her (she'll wake if she's hungry). I did go to 2 hour feeds after 6pm and added a dream feed. I also found this helped her to sleep longer and have less night feeds (1-2). Enjoy the newborn state!!! It goes sooo fast, my little one is already 11 weeks old and I miss her "newborn phase".

thanks for your suggestions, I'll give them a go.  think i'm trying to take on too much information, instead of just concentrating on Ruby. Still, she seems okay, I fed her at 8.30pm and tried to give her a dream feed at 10.30, i'm breastfeeding and found it quite difficult!! Anyway I gave up and put her back down and she slept through till 4am went back down at 5.30 and didn't wake up until 08.45am!!
