45 min biorythm causing short naps???
« on: January 30, 2006, 18:35:48 pm »
Hello,

I'm a first time, very inexperienced mum of a 17 week old LO.  DS has never taken naps longer than 45 minutes, but wakes up in a pretty good mood from these little power naps.  I have started to p/sh when he wakes from these naps to try and extend them, but he is not even remotely interested in going back to sleep...  He can stay awake for 1.5 - 1.75 hours pretty well after his siesta.

Do other LOs wake from short naps in such good moods, or do others use pu/pd, p/sh because their LOs are pretty unhappy when they wake and it is obvious they need more zzzs?
Does anyone else have this kind of baby and can share with me their 4 hour routine?
Should I try and continue to try and extend these naps?  He's started to wake every 2-2.5 hours in the night and can't put himself back to sleep too, I'm wondering if these problems are similar in nature.

Ant help, advice  (or words of encouragement  ;) ) would be greatly appreciated!

My LO is a short napper. Most of her naps are 45 min. and the majority of the time she wakes happy. If she is happy, I get her up. If she wakes up crying and I know it isn't time for a bottle then I try to extend her nap. Although, this rarely works for us. Mainly b/c I have a toddler and can't spend a long enough time  by her crib. I try to look at her total sleep for the day. For three months, it is about 10 hours at night and 5 hours of naps-total around 15-16. There is a post at the top of this board (I think  :) ) that lists total sleep hours. Of course every baby is different, some need a little more and some a little less. If your baby is not over tired or cranky throughout the day, I wouldn't worry too much about the short naps. From what I've read on this board, and experience with my son, the naps usually sort themselves out around 6 months. I hope this helps.  :)
