waffles/pancakes... what age to begin?
« on: January 31, 2006, 19:15:36 pm »
When can DD have waffles/pancakes? She is 10 months old. They do contain egg whites so should we wait until after 12 months or are any of your lo's having them earlier?

From what I've read parents seem to give them whole wheat waffles past 12 months.  I don't know if it is the egg thing or if the child isn't able to cope with fingers foods just yet.

Sorry I'm not much help  :-[

Just wondering if you had a waffle mix and substituted the egg whites with another ingredient, I've heard of doing that  :)

Hi,

I have been giving DD pancakes AND waffles.  I made the pancakes with the yolk only first but now when I make waffles and pancakes for us she gets some and LOVES them.  I have some I made frozen to take out with me as snacks.  I think cooking and baking with eggs greatly reduces the risk of egg whites as they are small in amount and baked therefore fully cooked.

If you are pretty vigilent about no egg whites period, I would wait until 12 months and the OK from your Dr..

Hi there,

Just a funny note... my lo grabbed my Eggo that I was having for breakfast off my plate and gummed it.  It just melted in her mouth so she got a good mouthful.  She didn't have any reaction to that, but I think I will hold off on giving her that as finger food for now!  I just thought it was funny that she needs to be coaxed to eat her own food but has no trouble with eating Mom or Dad's food!  :P
