We used these bottles and while I never took that middle bit out I would imagine you could. Though I think it may flow faster so you'd maybe need to go to a smaller nipple again. The middle bit is what helps prevent gas though. It forces the air to the bottom of the bottle. So you could try (they're such a pain to wash, eh? ::)) and if he gets to gassy or the flow is too fast you could just put it back in again.

Hello... Yep... tried that too, she only likes Dr. Brown´s bottles and it was a pain in the .... washing them so I decided to take the straw out and... the whole milk spills all the way from all places.   ??? I think you could try starting with Avent... I tried at 7 months and there is no way my dd accept Avent now! So I had to stick with Dr. Brown and keep washing all the tiny pieces, and dealing with some fungus that appears on the beige thing... But I cannot complain as they helped a  lot with reflux though.  HTH.

I was just going to post asking the same thing!!

Would be interested to see how you get along,  however, DH has forgotten to put the straw and brown bit in a couple of times and nothing bad seems to have happenend.  Might give it a try when I'm next feeling brave.

BTW, I 'discovered' the dishwasher baskets that you use to wash bottles in - it is so much easier to thrown
them in and stick the dishwasher on!  ;D
