45 min. nap - HELP!
« on: February 03, 2006, 20:04:59 pm »
My son, Ethan, is 8 weeks old.  We have been doing EASY for about a week now.  He is doing pretty well on it, but I am concerned about his 45 min. nap in the morning.  After his 9:00 AM feed, he tires pretty easily, then we wind down and put him to bed.  He is always awake and crying within 45 minutes.

He then feeds again at 12:00, has some activity time until he gets tired, then naps for usually 1.5 - 2 hours.

I've seen so many different strategies for breaking this habit, and I don't even know where to begin.  If someone could please offer me some advice  on where to start, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there-how long is he awake before this first nap?  45 min. naps in younger babies usually indicates overtiredness.  At this age it's a good idea to use pat/shhh to soothe your DS back to sleep.  Do you have BWSAYP?  If so, this method of soothing is described on page 184-185.  If not, let me know and I'll do a quick summary later on.

sorry this is so short, wanted to bump it to the top and at least give you a start.

Congratulations on your new baby!

No, I do not have a copy of her second book, unfortunately.

He feeds at 9 AM and is usually finished somewhere between 9:20 and 9:30.  We have an activity until he gets tired, which is generally around 10:15.  So, I soothe him to sleep, but he is always awake again by 11:15.  So far, the pat/shhh is not working to get him back to sleep.  So, I end up patting and shhhing him until it's time for him to feed again at 12.

You mentioned that he's probably overtired.  I don't doubt it as he, for some reason, always ends up skipping his nap between 6PM and 9PM.  He acts tired, but we are unable to get him to sleep!

Also, when we try to put him in his crib at the beginning of stage 3, it does nothing but wake him up again, and the pat/shhh isn't seeming to work for him.

HELP!!!

Suggestions?
