Please help wake sleeping baby
« on: February 04, 2006, 01:24:06 am »
Hi

I just started on the EASY program with my 7 week old. Before EASY i didnt really have a routine at all, however during the night she would wake up 2x 230 and 530. i really wanted to eliminate the 230 and hopefully the 530 with the help of EASY. I would let my daughter sleep in her swing or bouncy chair (I know the worst thing I could have done) for naps and only her crib for bedtime. Since getting her on EASY i now put her in her crib for naps as well. The problem is that the morning nap is a complete disaster as she wont sleep and the afternoon nap is never ending. I put her down at noon and its impossible for me to wake her up. Today for example she went down at noon, I tried to wake  her up at 2, but no luck. I tried to keep her up for the next hour and nothing. She has been in and out of sleep for the last 6 hours and finally i just gave up and put her in her crib for the night. I think she thought it was nightime and that is why she slept so much. Is this normal? what should i do to keep her up? I think i might have a rough evening tonight.

Please help!

I think you do have to wake your baby sometime unless you are happy for them to start getting their sleep during the day and being up all night.

This is how I used to wake up my lo at 2-3 months. I generally used to go in and turn the light on, then move around the room putting things away etc, then I'd lean over and stroke his cheek and say his name. If he was STILL asleep I picked him up (still swadlled or in sleepign bag) and sat him on my knee. Once he was semi awake I woudl lay him down and change his nappy.
