Yogurt?
« on: February 05, 2006, 03:48:02 am »
Yep, I'm thinking ahead again!  The info I have says whole milk yogurt.  Does that exist other than Yo-Baby?  Which I can't find, by the way.   Hence the question.   ;)  Dose it have to be whole milk?  Or can I just do custard style low fat?  Thanks!!

i think they say whole milk rather than low fat b/c the fat is good for your lo.  i don't know if it's right or not but i have been giving my lo regular yogurt mixed with some fruit puree and she seems to be doing just fine...i couldn't find any baby yogurt myself...

I heard It has to be whole milk because babies under 2 need "fat" and colesterol for developing brain and eyes.

Yo-baby is the only one I could find here.
But actually I bought one yo-baby package, and I made homemade yogurt using yo-baby. I found that trick from one internet site.
Mix 2-3 Tablespoon of yo-baby with 1 cup of whole milk. And put it in the slow cooker or toast oven (at 120 - 150 degree; not hot). then wait...about 8-12 hours. (When I used yo-baby, this homemade yogurt was exactly same as yogurt (except less sweet). but when I used low fat yogurt, homemade yogurt was bit different from yogurt.)

I'm sorry for my rough english. I'm not annnn eengliiiish speakerrrr. ^^

Yo baby is easiest to find, but I also was able to find a plain yogurt that was full fat. I think it was Dannon, but I could only find it in a big container. I'd add stuff to it and Tyler would be fine with it, then the yogurt's taste started to change a few days after it had been opened. It wasn't bad or expired, it just started to taste different and he didn't like it. Irritating, because it was soooo much less expensive than Yo Baby, but oh well.

Hi, I give my DS petit filous yoghurts which are suitable from 4 months old. At lunchtime he seems full from all his veggies but always manages to have room for his yoghurt !!!

Making it sounds interesting!  Do you have to start with the store bought each time, or can you use some of the homemade to start a new batch?
