I just switched my 1 year old daughter to regular milk.  She won't hardly eat cereal.  I've tried all kinds of cereal with iron.  & i haven't found one she will eat.  I just want to make sure she's getting enough iron.  Any suggestions of what i should give her?  She eats her veggies & fruit well.  & she eats some rice & pasta.  i know that she probably needs more grains, but everytime i offer her more, she starts getting constipated (or hard stools).  Anyway, i guess i have several problems or questions.  I would love more suggestions about what my 1 year old should be eating.  i haven't started giving her meat either.  should i start that?  what other proteins (besides meat) could i give her?  Thanks for your help!

There are lots of foods containing Iron..

Beans, peas, lentils, pasta, bagel, avocado, tofu, potato with skin (and so on) are good sources of iron.
also beans, peas, lentils and tofu are good sources of protein.

You'd better read this for iron... http://www.bchealthguide.org/healthfiles/hfile68d.stm

Thanks.  The website is helpful.  I do live in a country that doesn't have beans or lentils easily available...which makes it a little more difficult.  We also don't have  bagals here.  How do you prepare the tofu?  i actually haven't seen tofu here either...but i know they must have it.  i used to cook with it a lot but how do you prepare it for babies?  i know my questions probably seem silly..but i just have to do lots of research since we don't have foods that i'm used to eating...or information.  Thanks so much.

Baby cereal can be mixed into just about anything. I've stirred some dry cereal into pasta sauce, mac and cheese, and applesauce. You can also use it to coat fruit or veggie chunks, just roll them in some dry cereal. If you can find wheat germ, that's another good source of iron that can be stirred into anything (I stir it into Tyler's yogurt). If you can find tofu, there are tons of ways to serve it to toddlers. Easiest is to cut it into chunks and offer it as finger food, or dry it off and fry it in some oil. You can also spread it on toast or sandwiches (works great in grilled cheese) or mash it up and mix it in other foods.

If you find that she gets constipated when you offer more grains, make sure you only offer whole grains. They're more nutritious and often aren't as constipating.

For Tofu recipes, here,,, it was useful to me. http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/tofu.htm

But, me as an asian, I like these two recipes better. (maybe it's too much for some busy mommy..  :))
- just slide tofu, coat tofu with egg yolk(or whole egg) and fry it with some oil.
- mash tofu(if you soak water from tofu with paper towel, it's better), add 1 egg and 2-3 spoons of milk, some chopped vegetables (carrot) and bake in the oven (400 degree for 10-15min). it's my favorite, but not yet for my 9 mo. baby.

wow.  all of these ideas sound great.  & thanks for posting the website.  i have tried lots of different fruits with the cereal.  nothing really seems to work.  but i haven't tried the pasta sauce or mac & cheese.  That's interesting & i will have to try that.
thanks so much!
