Did anyone else start easy as late as me!? (6 months)
« on: February 05, 2006, 18:31:04 pm »
I wish I had of know about Tracy's book sooner!
... is there hope for us and our little girl... talk about "accidental parenting", we just moved her to her crib (she has been sleeping with us) so I am dealing with a double wammy!

She has always had an issue with sleep, even in our bed... cry cry cry.
Just wondering how many PU/PDs everyone has had to do until the little munchkins fall asleep...
sigh :-\

thanks for any advice!
Leslie

Hello and welcome!!  :)

There are many people that have started later - and it's doable! :)  As far as the pu/pd goes...it can be up to 100 times or more.  I started pu/pd with my son when he was 4 mos old.  It took about 3 weeks - but WOW was it worth it  ;D

Hello.  My son is 6 month old also and I just got the book.  I loved it so much, I read it all in just a few days and this web-site.. WOOO is very addicting.  So much information.

Like you, I did "alot of accicental pareting".  We took the easy way out.  My son still and never has slept through the night.  He always wakes up at 2:30 in the morning screaming his head off for a bottle.  So what do we do "FEED HIM".  He sucks his entire bottle down and goes right back to sleep.  The whole process only takes about 20 minutes. But, He is old enough and should be sleeping all night. And he eats enough during the day.

Have you started the 4 hour EASY?  As far as the Pick up Put down method goes.  This was not for us.  I'm not saying it can't work, but I don't have the patience to pick him up and put him down 100 times.  I really don't know what I am going to to do, I just go to bed every night an pray that he will sleep until morning.  He was just sick so I know that had a lot to do with waking up...

What does your schedule look like?

Here is mine.  Works great during the day, just want sleep all night.

6:00/6:30 a:m  Wake-up
6:45/7:00  Bottle 6 oz.
8:00 Solids
8:30/9:00 Nap (45 minutes)
11:00 Bottle 6 oz.
12:00/12:30 Solids
1:00 Nap (2 hours)
3:00 Bottle 6 oz.
5:00 I pick him up from the sitters
5:45 Solids
6:15 Bath, change into pajamas
6:45 Bottle 6 oz.
7:00 BEDTIME

Since we have changed his bedtime to 7:00 he goes to sleep very easy.  We were trying to keep him up until 7:30/8:00 before and he cried and cried and it look him about 30 minutes to fall asleep.

I hate the fact that he goes to bed so early.  I get off work at 4:00 and get him home by 5:00.  So that only means 2 hours for time with him :-(.  Gets very stressful, because you evenings are rush rush rush and you can't do anything.  I guess that comes a long with paretning.  I just wish I had more time with him.

I hope you get some helpful advice on here.  I have!  I don't think 6 months is to old at all to start using Traceys methods, I just think it will take a little longer.

Good Luck
-Wendy
Wendy -

Zach - 3 1/2 yrs old. My sweet, loving, gentle boy that loves playing in the dirt!

Tyler - 17 months.  My very very spirited little boy.  Can't turn your back for a minute.  He is doing the cutest things now!  Loves to eat and climb!

Thanks for the replies - thank god for this website - my new suport group!

Hmmm, a schedule, well I am working on that.  :-\
I am trying to implement EASY as well as put her to sleep without the help of my boob!
Putting her to sleep is such an ordeal!
Last night I bathed her, massaged her (and she was tired, rubbing her eyes and everything!) and then put her in her crib around 8:00pm.  It took me until 10:30pm to get her to sleep using the PU/PD method!
Its incredible how stressful it can be!
This afternoon I tried putting her for a nap and the same thing- an hour of crying and PU/PD...

It gets easier right? .....and shorter?

My schedule: (still working on it)

8am - wakeup/breastfed
9am - breakfast
10:30 -nap -
11:30- sleep
12:30 - awake/breastfed
3:30- nap
etc....

My bedtime routine starts around 6:30/7pm

Hello!
Routine looks good an if just starting pu/pd - that sounds perfectly normal.   :)  It will get shorter and easier, but it will take some time.  The main thing here is consistency.  If you switch off and on with the boob, for example, it will just confuse her more.  Good luck!!!  Let us know if you have more questions and definitely check out the other boards if you have more specific questions to pu/pd etc.

Ohhhhh wanted to add too - you had mentioned Tracy's book...if you don't have her 3rd one (solves all your problems) I HIGHLY recommend it.  It is a much more "how to" for many habits/problems that one may have.  :)
