Solids at 6 months.
« on: February 06, 2006, 16:02:38 pm »
DS turns 6 months and its time to start supplementing with rice cereal. That has been going well last 3-5 days. OBTW...he did fail re-introduction of soy. I would like to start with fruits/veggies and plan to go REAL slow. Maybe one new food a week. No h/o food allergies in the family. I was going to try bananas, sweet potatoes, applesauce, carrots. I don't think those are high allergenic potential. Any thoughts? Still EBF for majority of time. Thanks.

I weaned much more aggressively than you so perhaps others are better to advice you but I wanted to suggest pears and also avocado which has minimal allergic risk.

I'm not intending to wean his breastmilk...that will still be his main source of nutrition until 12 months...and longer if he wants. Like the avocado suggestion...I adore guacamole!

Also squash.  Mine got major gas from sweet potatoes.  Sounds like that is not uncommon at first.  Good luck and have fun!!  Remember to take before and after pics!!!!!!!!!

If their is a history of an intolerance or allergys avoid the following when first weaning:

potato
tomato
aubergine
peppers
citrus fruit
strawberries
shellfish

introduce the potato, tomato, aubergine and peppers after 9 months
introduce cutrus fruits after 12 months
and shellfish and strawberries after 24 months!

my ds was intlorate to tomatos yet could eat everything else!! my current foster child is 5 months and introlerate to lactose and soya so going to wean very gradually and very carefully!!!

Hope this helps
