irregular naps
« on: February 08, 2006, 20:30:01 pm »
My DS doesn't seem to follow any sort of nap routine in the daytime. Sometimes he sleeps for 45 mins, sometimes 30 or occasionally 2hrs! They don't seem to follow any pattern and it doesn't seem to matter what we are doing at A time either. He is 11 weeks. At what stage do nap times become more regular or predictable?

It really varies from baby to baby but they say it can take up to 6 mos. (and sometimes longer) to develop day sleep.  For my first born, his routine became predictable around 3.5 mos., for DD, now 5.5 mos., she's just developed some sort of pattern over the last 2 weeks or so.  Hang in there, it will get better!

I went through the same thing (still do sometimes) with my DS when he was 3 - 4months old. The only thing I can say is that EASY is a guideline, if my ds only wants 45mins and he wakes and is happy and smiling then I am not going to upset him by try to put him back to sleep.

If however he wakes after 45mins still grumpy and whiney then I most definitely put him back with sush/pat and don't even lift him out the cot.

There are also days when I have to wake him after 2 hours nap   ::) The short naps don't happen as much now he seems to take 2 long naps a day and a catnap before bathtime.

The main thing is don't get worried about it, your not doing anything wrong and after reading many other posts the same, it is just something that happens at this age.

Also to just to add ..... are you leaving your LO time to try and resettle after waking froma a short nap or going to them?
