Yogurt - what brand?
« on: February 11, 2006, 18:35:47 pm »
Ok, so I've decided to try yogurt on my lo.  I'm hoping he likes it, cuz goodness knows he doesn't like much.

Do I buy just regular, natural, plain yogurt?  Are there special baby yogurts or do I just use the regular stuff I can find on the shelf.

TIA

My personal favorite for all of us is Stonyfield Farms Organic Whole Milk yogurt. It's organic, no added sugars, and even has the cream on top! SOOOOO creamy!!!! Josie liked it mixed with sweeter veggies, like carrots and squash, along wtih a little cinnamon. YUM!!! It only comes in the big size as far as I know, but it does go fast if you all eat some! :)

I'd avoid the YoBaby stuff, as it has added sugar - even "organic dehydrated cane juice" is still sugar!

The first yogurt I tried with my lo was just a plain whole milk variety with 10% m.f.  (I think it's called Mediterranean something or other - and it also only comes in a big container)  It's really awful tasting (tastes like sour cream) but my dd seems to like it mixed with whatever kind of fruit is in the fridge.  I think any unsweetened yogurt with greater than 5% m.f. is a good choice.

Oh sorry...m.f. refers to the amount of fat.  Like 1% or 2% milk.  Half and half cream that you'd put in coffee has 10% m.f.  Nice and fattening for baby! :)

We get Brown Cow--also a thick layer of cream on top--Even the plain tastes pretty good, although Savannah will only eat it if it has fruit or something mixed in.  (just the fat makes it yummy enough for me! ;))

OK, so the highest mf I could find was 6%.  it's all natural without any filler.  Do you think that's ok?  I bought it and will wait to see what you ladies think.  I even scoured the organics section.   :(
