Weaning full stop so confused
« on: February 12, 2006, 09:00:03 am »
ok this could be a long one.

we started weaning matthew early because even hungrier baby milk wasn't enough, he now has 4 cubes at breakfast and at tea time as well as 5 X 6oz bottles but has now started waking up at 5.00 again where he went thru to 7.00 should we up his milk or up his solids.

he has just turned 17 weeks

Also when should we start giving him meat, my mum seems to think we should start now but the hv said to wait til he was 4.5 months HELP!!!! :-\

I would increase the milk first as your lo is so young still. First weaning foods have fewer calories than milk so will not be filling him up for as long. Try giving more in each bottle.  I personally held off introducing meat until my dd was 6 months old (which is the recommended age for introducing meat). As your lo is younger than the recommended weaning age anyway I would stick to fruits and veggies and/or baby rice and hold off introducing meat until your lo is a bit older.

Ditto about the meat and about upping the milk intake. My only other suggestion (clear it with he doctor though) is to add a little butter to the veg you are giving your littleone as it ups the calories per cube.
