When does A start and end?
« on: June 25, 2014, 13:22:53 pm »
I think my baby is OT as his naps have been 45min at best. I am trying hard to get him to sleep longer and one of the things I'm wondering is if his A time is too long. He is 4 1/2 mo old and usually has a 2 hr A time. But, what I'm wondering is if I should be counting his wind-down period/ falling asleep time as a part of his A time? He seems so full of energy when I try putting him down (like he's kicking, blowing raspberries, etc) so I always assume he can handle the awake time. Except that when he does wake up 45min later, he's cranky and not well rested. It just seems like such a short time to be up otherwise.  ???

S time is eyes closed until eyes open, so A time is everything when an LO is not sleeping.

Could you post your day in EAS format so we can take a look at it?

Its changing as his naps are so short these days. It was a solid EAS starting at 7am.
Now, its like wake up 6am  :( then AEAeS (small e for top off before sleep... trying to help him sleep longer than 45min)
I don't entirely have a rhythm now since its all been changing but I really try to maintain the EAS pattern.
His activity time has been 2hrs, sometimes more if he couldn't fall asleep.
I did try making sure that he was actually asleep within two hours after his final nap of the day today. He seemed to go down a lot easier. Before, he would have 2 hrs of A time after his final nap and then an additional hour of trying to get him to sleep.... I guess I was making him OT.  ;D I am going to reduce his A time in favor of making sure it includes his winding down/ falling asleep time, I think its that that gets him OT.
Thanks!

so to clarify, is A time
start: when they wake from their nap and don't want to sleep anymore, even if you try to coax them back to sleep?
and end: after they wind down and actually fall asleep into their nap, including any pu/pd and pat shhh time?
