Sterilize for how long???

I was just wondering how long it is necessary to sterilize bottles, nipples etc??  DS is breastfed morning and night and has one bottle midday and I have still been sterilizing everything which is getting to be a pain in the butt!!  ::)

Just wondering what everyone else does??!!!

We have 10 bottles that lasts us a day for sure so we keep a large pot on the stove for once a day boiling (5 min).  After each bottle has been used we wash it with soap and hot water and then just place it in the pot.

I stopped when my DD was about 3.5 months old and learned to put things into her mouth, it got pretty pointless then.

Is it different here in the states?  I only sterilized the nipples before they were first used (I used Playtex liners so no bottles to wash) From then on they were washed in hot soapy water or the dishwasher.  I would probably have done the same with the bottles..hmmm I should check on that!!  :) ;)

i stopped at 6 months when i switched to stage 2 formula as the tin says you only need to wash in soapy water. I only use boiling water and detergent now as she sticks eveything in her mouth so found it pointless.
