4 month old waking at 3:00am
« on: February 14, 2006, 14:44:00 pm »
Hello,

My 4 month old is almost 17 lbs. I am trying to feed her 8 oz. every bottle and at night she gets some cereal.  Yesterday she had about 31 oz and still woke up at 3:00am for a feeding and ate 7oz.  This means that she is hungry correct.  It not that this is becoming a habit is it?????  Also,  Could a baby use patting on the butt as a prop.  I can get my lo down but she wakes up 2 or 3 times and I have to get in there and pat shush her.  Any suggestions on how to have her sleep through the night or about the patting on the butt issue.  Thank You

If she's drinking that much then yes she is hungry. I'd continue to feed that to her when she wakes, you'll know when its time to drop it. How much cereal is she eating? that may actually be the problem.
Whats your routine like for the day? Maybe I can help you fit a few more oz into the day if I see it.
As for the patting, yes I think they can use that as a prop. I'm not sure how to brake that habbit. I'd suggest you ask at the prop bored. They'll be able to help you with that.

I just got her on the cereal 3 days ago and I am only giving her 1 tablespoon of cereal and 3-4 tablespoons of formula. Should I give the cereal more than once a day?

wow thats a lot of cereal to start with, your LO probably has a bit of an upset tummy. I'd actually suggest you cut it out comepletly and restart it at 5.5 - 6 months old. You would start with a teaspoon at a time and work it up from there.

whats your actually routine for your day? sleep, feed, and activity times?

I am trying to stick to a 4 hour routine the best I can

7-7:30am-- wake and eat 8 oz
8:00am --walk her brother to school
8:15-9:00am-- activity
9:15am go upstairs to start winddown
9:30-?  sleep it is always different
11:30 eat 8oz
12:00 go pick up her brother
12:30-1:15 activity
1:15 start winddown
1:30-? sleep always different
3:30 eat hard to feed
4-5PM  activity
5:00pm cereal
5:30pm try for catnap but usually never happens
6:00 bath
7:00 eat
7:30 sleep
10:30 dreamfeed

Now I try to stick to this the best I can but it seems like my times are a bit different from day to day but I try and stick to the 4 hour routine.  Then she usually wakes up again at 3:30am or 4am and eat 7-8 oz.
3:30-  eat
4:00-5:00pm activity
