Vege smoothies / juice
« on: February 20, 2006, 00:16:20 am »
Hi all,

Ellie refuses her veges every now and again, and it just occured to me on the weekend - could I either juice the veges OR use milk and yoghurt and turn them into smoothies for her?  Or is that too gross?

Obviously, I'm thinking more about things like pumpkin, carrot, sweet potato/yam etc, rather than corn (yech!).

I'd be interested to hear if anyone's tried it.

Thanks
Eleanor - 13/12/04

It sounds a bit disgusting to me!! Would you be doing the taste test first??  It might be nicer if you used fruit in the smoothies instead or you could do a mix of fruit/veg which might make it taste nicer.

When I get deperate to get veggies into John, I let him drink Vruit.  This is a juice mix of veggies and fruit.  I usually get the one that is apple, carrot, celery....it tastes pretty good.

I'm not sure that veggie smoothies woule go over very well here.  Although I have threatened to make carrot ice cream on more than one occassion.   ;)

One more tip: our doctor wasn't so concerned with John being in an anti-veggie phase right now as long as he is still eating fruit.

One thing I do that is sometimes successful is making pumpkin or sweet potato muffins.  You could do carrot, too (like carrot cake).  Those are all pretty concentrated in terms of vitamins, so the little bit in a mini-muffin counts as a serving of vegetables.

I also sometimes give Lilah a dip to go with her veggies, which helps get her a little more excited about eating them.

But, currently, Lilah is eating pretty much nothing, so I'm by no means doing a great job getting a balanced meal into her!
