Slower eating needed
« on: February 21, 2006, 03:13:16 am »
We have a 2 wk old that eats fast.  We tried premie nipples from Avent and now are using premie nipple from Dr. Brown.  The first time she uses the new nipple it slows her down, but after a few feeds she gets used to it and goes back to her ways.  By eating fast, she tends to over eat and then vomits.  Any suggestions to slow her down or perhaps someone is aware of a slower nipple?

Thank you in advance!!

hi!

Wow you have a fast eater on your hands, that's really good, but if you want to slow her eating maybe you could try to burp her more often, so that way the air is getting out in smaller amounts and she'll tend to vomit less!

Good luck! and let me know how it goes!

Hi  :)

I agree with burping more often.  If the nipple is too fast, they will usually be dribbling a lot down the sides and/or choking gagging on the flow.  I believe excessiving spit up and/or vomiting can be a sign of reflux?  Sorry, don't have experience with that but you may want to post on the reflux board.

HTH  :)
