Need advice on bathing in the big tub for my lo
« on: February 21, 2006, 03:49:13 am »
Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on switching my baby from the little tub to the big tub.  He's 6 months old, doesn't sit too well on his own yet, in fact he doesn't even roll over yet.  Argh, should I be worried?  Anyhow how, back to the topic.  He's 6 months and he's pretty big.  He can barely fit in the little tub, which is actually a pretty decent size tub, only he's a pretty big baby.  I tried to give him a bath in the big tub today and he was absolutely terrified.  Not only is he crying but it's also very hard on my back to have to bend over the tub like that.

How does everyone else do it?  I've seen stuff like this on TV and they make it look so easy.

Please help...=)

Hi!  It is tough when little tub is too little and big tub too big.  Until he gets used to the big tub, can you get in with him for bath time?  It is inconvenient, but might make him feel more secure.  We then used a bath seat within the bigger tub, and this worked well.

Let us know how bath time goes!  ;)

do you have any suggestions for bath seats?  I tried using the munckin rubber ducky one, he can sit up pretty well in it, only problem is he can barely fit in it.  It's a little too narrow for him and if he stretches his legs, he'll have no more room.

When we switched DS to the big tub he also wasn't ready to sit up yet, so we use the Safer Bather pad in the tub (you can get it at Amazon or Babies R Us). It's soft, but supports him well, and he doesn't feel like he's slipping. Also, we stuck those bathtub letters and numbers (you know, they stick to the tile with water) above the tub on the wall that he was facing. This way, he's not just looking at lots of white tile in the bath. DH has a great time each night coming up with words to put on the tile (since we did the taxes last night, the word was "tax refund" :)) HTH

I have only ever bathed my LO in the big bath. I first used to used one of those reclined bath seats but now he is a bit bigger I use one were he can sit up. He does try to escape now though and if I let him he'l stand up in the bath, easier for cleaning him though  :)

if you go to the topic bath time help in the activity time board then you will find that Helen has posted pics of her ds William enjoying his bathseat.  i know that she won't mind me saying that her little man is a strapping speciman so anything that fits Will would likely help you as well!

We used this duck bathtub:

The beak quacks, which ds found delightful!!  It fits in your regular bathtub, but gives them  more room than a baby bath, and offers them more security than a full bathtub.

We have bathed ds in the actual tub since almost day 1 since he only fit in our sink for his first couple of baths. He either sits in a bath seat or one of us gets in with him, which is SO FUN!  ;D  He doesn't sit up well enough yet to be in by himself.

i used to just hold my baby up in the sit position in her tub with one arm and wash with the other hand. we have got a bath seat but it was a bit too tight so i didnt use it. i still bath her in the tub as it uses a lot less water than in the bath, but now she can sit on her own. i will soon have to put her in the bath as her legs are too long.

What about having a bath with him until he is a little more comfy with the idea?

I bought the yellow foam tub insert at target and just put that in the big tub.  DS lays flat on it, with his legs sticking off.  I put in maybe a couple inches of water and do a lot of pouring water on him with a cup so he doesn't get cold.  He either curls up to suck his toes or splashes with his feet.  It's been a good way to transition to the big tub--when he can sit up better we'll try to switch him to a seat.

hi,
If you don't want to have to spend money on thngs, an idea, b4 my lo could sit up I would just put a towel in the bottom of the big tub, and lay him on his back in the tub.  he loved it, it let him kick his legs and arms(half the time I ended up wetter than him but hey....)
Know that he can sit up i bought a bath seat from Toys'R'Us, but I don't use it very often cause he gets really excitied in the tub and trys to jump out of it, or pull himselve up on the side of the tub :)

We transitioned our little guy from his infant tub (which is way too big for) to the big tub by putting his tub in the big tub for a while to get him used to bathing in that location, but while still in his familar tub. Then we bathed with him in the big tub, which is tons of fun... except for the time he peed. Now I just lay him on his back in the big tub (only put in enough water so that its below his ears) and he splashes around like a maniac. I tried holding him in a seated position but it kills my back and he likes being able to splash around better anyway.

Hi

We started using this non-slip foam support about a month ago, DS loves it becasue he can SPLASH!!!!! It can also be used as it is non-slip for when he starts to sit up.  :D
