Please help - lost track
« on: February 22, 2006, 01:30:48 am »
I have posted in other areas with questions on sleep, etc. I am having a rough couple of days with my 7 week old son and I am starting to lose it.  Baby blues have come back and now I can't even remember a lot of what was in the book.  I can't say that Dante is a specific type - I think he is definitely a combination of textbook and spirited.  I know that EASY can work, but I am really at my ropes end with making it work.  What do you do when your baby cries and cries and cries?

Hello!

Sorry you're having a rough time {{HUGS}}.  At this little, and he's crying and he's been fed and changed he's probably overtired.  I would do whatever you need to do to get him to sleep, get some sleep yourself and try again.  If he seems to be crying in pain, maybe he has reflux?

Sorry I'm probably not much help, please let us know if there are specific issues you need guidance on.

Try to take care of yourself too.  If you think you might be having some PPD issues, take a look at that forum too.  The better health you are in, it will be easier to cope.

 :)

Just wanted to say I've been there and it DOES get better so hang in there, before you know it you won't remember the hard times now. My dd did nothing but cry when she was younger to the point I wondered if something was wrong with her! I think they have a lot of issues that makes them cry- my dd wouldn't burb and had terrible gas pain, couldn't and wouldn't nap or sleep until she was all cried out, didn't eat regularly instead "snacked" all the time. With following BW all issues got better each day, each week.

Few things I found helpful-
For gas and lack of burping- I used gas drops, they helped greatly.
For regular feeding, I made sure I didn't feed under 2 hours, this way she got a good feed vs a snack.
For activity time I kept it to a minimum- diaper change, etc. Nothing too stimulating otherwise dd would cry.
For sleep when she was out of control crying, I did what I had to do to get her to a calm cry first- this meant gentle rocking, taking her to "white noise" such as running tap water then I swaddled and used pat/sh to get her calm to sleep. Pick up/put down doesn't work at this young age (it stimulates them). I also found it helpful to keep the room dark and quiet, and I took down the mobile as it had hanging animals and music (too stimulating).

Thank you for the hugs.  It has been a rough week...today is better, although I am not following the book.  My ds seems to like to eat and then sleep and took a 1 hour nap this morning.  He woke up a little while ago, fussed, had a bottle and is now back to sleep.  Granted, I don't think that he will continue to just eat and sleep all day, nor do I think it's a great idea as he has had no real activiy, but I will take the break for now.

Thanks again and I will see how this goes....

HI Dana
I was in the EXACT same boat just a few months ago...my son would NOT nap AT ALL during the day, and spent at least  3-4 hours a day screaming at the top of his lungs.  My husband and I would pace our wood floors and literally pass him off to the other after about 15 minutes of walking!  I never thought I would "see the light at the end of the tunnel" but I just want to let you know, it DOES get better, just try to stay positive and see the neat little positive things your son does everyday.  I wish I knew about this website a few months ago!! It really is amazing how much the support of other people who have experienced the same things you do can help!
;D Good Luck and keep us posted!
