6 mos old and won't take a bottle at all
« on: February 22, 2006, 19:43:11 pm »
My 6 mos old baby girl will not take a bottle. She has been breastfeed since birth and now if I want to go out or have my husband feed her I can't do it, She doesn't know how to suck on the normal bottle it seems like she just can't take in that much milk at a time. I just bought the Haberman feeder bottle hoping that I can get away with that.

Can anyone give any tips that they've tried?

Have you tried a sippy cup?

It's the same thing. She chokes on it.
Do you know if the Haberman feeder works?

Hi!  :)

Take a look at this link if you haven't already, there are some good tips there.

Also, have you tried a straw cup?  That may be easier than a regular sippy.

I have never tried a Haberman feeder so not sure how they work, but if you have other bottles you may need to try different nipples or even a slower nipple size if it seems she's getting too much milk at a time.

Hi
I started of breast feeding, and then introduced the Haberman at around 3 or 4 weeks old, however I have heard it is easier for babies to take both teat and nipple at this young age.

We had no problem with the Haberman as Calum still had to suck to get the milk, not like some other bottles.

I could not use a straw cup because she's to young.

Both of my kids used straw cups at 6-7 mos - but you're right, not all babies will take to them.  :) ;)

I ahve the same problem with my 6 month old.  He refuses to drink my expressed milk from a bottle which makes any "mom alone" outings longer than 4 hours virtually impossible.  HE has been drinking from a sippy cup with the top totally off (like drinking from a real cup) I tilt the cup SLOWLY and just basically wet his lips and he srinks some....it is however painfully slow and tedious, but the liquid does get drunk (we are only up to about 1 1/2 oz at each sitting....nothing substantial)  I dont know anything about the Haberman Feeder as your posting was the first time I heard of it, I purused a few websites with it, and am stil a bit confused.  Please let me know if it works for your little one as I am extremely curious about it.  This bottle strike is making me extremely nervous to try to wean my son off of the breast (probably precisely what he wants!!!) We'll see what happens!!
