changing from 3hr to 4hr routine - timings?
« on: February 23, 2006, 12:58:21 pm »
i am following tracy's plan in BW solves all your problems (p230), but the timings don't seem to add up.

eg. days 4-7
S 12:15 (1hr15mins)
E 13:15
A 14:00
S 14:45 (2hrs)
E 16:15
A 16:45

the feed / sleep figures seem to be wrong
if they sleep 1h15mins at 12:15, the next feed should be 13:30
and if they sleep 2hrs at 14:45 the next feed should be 16:45

anyone done it before?
any advice?

thanks!

I am also trying to transition so I sympathise....There is a post on this EASY board which explain it a bit better-apparently there has been much discussion about page 230!!! You are right the timings don't add up...it was hurting my head for a good while trying to work it out. I think the general idea is to increase the LO's awake times very gradually over a time so that eventually they are awake for 2 hours at a time an then napping for 2 hours twice and a catnap....
Our easy has gone all over the show since trying to transition from 3 to 4. My ds is 20 weeks and it goes like this:
7.15 Wake up and eat
8.30 Nap till 10.30
11 eat
12.30-12.45 Nap (often a strugge and have to help him thro sleep cycle)
2.30-45pm Eat (often there is a short A time before this feed)
3.45 Nap
5pm Eat....just a small feed as he can't yet go the 4 hours at this time of day
Sometimes a catnap between 5.30-6.15...sometimes not.
7pm eat and bed.

Howevere we are having real struggles wih early evening wakins every 45 mins cos he is overtired and prehaps cos of the transitioning-which is taking AGES!

Hiya
This was my 4hr routine after transition, Beam79 is right everything gets TOTALLY messed up at this stage and it took me a week or so to get it right again - but stick with it. Sometimes my LO wanted to go 4.5 - 5hr between feeds?! ::)

7am - wake - not hungry when he first wakes
E 7:30am - milk 7-8oz
A
S 9am (anywhere from 45 - 2hrs)
A

E 11:30am - milk - 7-8oz
A
S 1330 (anywhere from 45 - 2hrs)
A

E 1600pm - milk - 7-8oz
A
S Catnap - made sure he was up no later than 1800, usually only 45mins max.
19.45pm - milk - 10oz
Bed 2030
no dream feed - never has

Your A time should be about 2hrs at this age (he has since started going 3hrs sometimes), all my  E times posted are give or take 30mins (except the 0730 one). S times vary but generally if he has one short nap in the morning he has a longer one in the afternoon and vice-versa. Since turning 5month, his bedtimes are 8pm as he sometimes refuses the capnap - I am still working on bringin this earlier.

The other thing I suggest, as it worked for me, is to following your LO's feed cues for a few days. My DS was ready to go to 4 hours and missed his cues and just thought he was playing with his food, when in actual fact he wasn't hunggry after 3 - 3.5hrs.   Also good to keep a log of your day so you can see what is happening.

Hope this is of some help to you.
