9 weeks- teething?!
« on: February 25, 2006, 19:49:09 pm »
hi. my baby is now 2 months old and my motherinlaw believes he is teething already!i know its possible, but she has NEVER been right when it comes to him. when i thought he had a cold... she thought nothing was wrong.(ped. said he had one) when i thought he had thrush he did, and she thought it was formula stuck to his mouth. when he wouldnt take the pacifire when he was crying she thought it was from a soar throat, and i thought it was because he was overtired and was too busy crying (hadnt slept all day) the ped. said no soar throat. now she thinks that because hes slobbering he is teething!! she never stops! every baby slobbers. just because he found his fingers does not mean that hes sucking them out of pain. i think that hes slobbering because he cant keep the spit in his mouth when he sucks his hands. i havent heard any cries for no reason(and believe me i KNOW a pain cry) hes not doing anything besides that out of the ordinary ( and its not even that often anyways) and he hasnt woken up from anything but for a feed at night, and hasnt been sticking alot of things in his mouth. no fevers either. im around him all hours of the day while my mother in law is only around him 1 or 2, and not every day. i know him. but JUST IN CaSE he is , does any one else believe that he is teething, and what are some signs?

William started teething at 8 weeks (which was confirmed by my health visitor)... it all did start with extra drooling and few other symptoms.. then came the runny pooey nappies... and lots of them, as the drool made his tummy a bit acidic and made him poo more. Folowing this came the red cheeks and the urge to chomp on my fingerand his own fingers. He has never had a fever with his teething yet but then again he hasn't cut a tooth yet.
It sounds as though your LO may be showing the first signs of teething as the teeth move through the gums, so don't count it out.

When it comes to your mom in law, I guess she is only trying to help you, but from experience I know that if someone tried to make out they knew better than me when it came to William I felt irritated about it. Follow your mommy intuition and if you are worried by something check it out with a health visitor or doctor, but if your LO does show discomfort keep an open mind and keep an eye on it.

Take care

Helen xx

Hiya Skibbit, mine started at 8 weeks, this was confirmed by my health visitor. He has been on & off then but no sign of teeth.
But it can also be developmental at this age for drools, etc. If your LO is teething there will be other symptoms as well.

Check out this site.   http://www.teething-babies.co.uk/index.html
