Hi everyone,

My little boy is 23 months old and in the last week or so has just started waking up in the middle of the night and getting up out of his bed to come into our room.

Previously to this, he slept all night, from 7.00pm until 6.00am with no wake-ups or interruptions.  We changed him to a proper bed from his cot about 2 months ago now with no problems at all and up until this week, when he woke up in the morning he just used to cry to let us know he was awake, but he never actually got out of his bed or room.

Now, he wakes up, gets out of bed and comes into our room.  I get up, put him back to bed, tuck him up and go back to my own room.  Then he gets up, comes into our room, I get up - you get the picture.  I don't speak to him, he doesn't get any attention, just gets put back to bed.  This has lasted for about a week and seems to be getting worse rather than better - it was over an hour last night.  Mostly, when he comes into our room and he sees me get up he turns straight around and goes back to his room and gets into bed, so he clearly knows that's where he should be in the middle of the night.

Can anyone offer any advice as to what to do?  I follow Tracy's advice religiously and it's always worked so far - so what am I doing wrong this time?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Donna.

Hi
I can't actually help with this because I haven't put Emily
into a big bed yet,and I can't remember what happened
with Jess at that age :-[.
But I just wanted to offer you a hug and let you know
that the fab Mums and Dads on here will help you no end.
I'll keep an eye on the post and if you can't resolve then I'll
go through the books with you.
As far as I can tell, you're doing the right thing, maybe it just
takes a while.
I'm putting Emily in a bed in the next couple of months and
dreading it,so I'll be looking for your help then ;)

I can't speak from exact experience either since Nathan has only got out of bed in the middle of the night a couple of times without drama, but I would say stick with what you're doing, be boring, no attention, but respond in the way you are.  What I did want to comment on though is that with any new things that cropped up like this, it usually takes us a couple of weeks of remaining consistent for the issue to go away.
