Foreign language books for toddlers/Italian
« on: February 28, 2006, 19:23:24 pm »
Hoping bw Moms and Dads may be able to help. I really need to purchase some board books or any toddler books for dd in Italian. I have googled and come up with absolutely nothing. I know last year when we were in Italy I had a look and found nothing, only comics and sticker books or books for older kids. A european website may be better as I can get them delivered to my parents or sister and have them post them but honestly anything will do.
Sinead/McRuairi do you know of any italian website which might sell them and I could get them delivered to my inlaws and have them post them? I have asked them to look for me but have given up at this stage and dd is mad into books :-)
Many thanks,
Fiona

Hi Fiona,
tell me what you'd like and maybe I can have a look for you and send them on to you in-laws. Where are they?
How many would you like?
I actually find a few last year (when my DD was your age) at the supermarket and they were going cheap too so I bought 3 or 4.
Let me know.

Ciao

I'll also see if I can get my hands on a few. What age is your baby?

Here are some we already have:

Trotta Trotta Cavallino (Anna Prandoni) ISBN # 88-412-9406-X
It came with a CD to sing along with the songs in the book...very cute

and my favorite:
Le Piu' Belle Storie, Fiabe e Filastrocche Per I Piu' Piccini (Vallardi) ISBN # 88-7696-334-0

You may also want to do a google search on http://www.google.it and look for fables, etc. If you speak Italian it is much easier to search for things.

I'll check in with my family to see what other resources they might have.

I hope that helps a little!

Okay so I did a mini search...here is what I came up with:

This website had a few books listed:
http://www.filastrocche.it/shopping/i_libri.asp

But, this website seems to have many more...
http://www.internetbookshop.it/hmepge.asp?shop=635
If you click on the left hand side on "libri per ragazzi" then it comes up with a few choices as well. You can put things into your cart and change the means for payment (American currency, etc). I assume that it would also ship to the USA, but I didn't go that far into it.

Hope that helps a little. Send me a private message if you're interested in more info.

Hi Sinead and Alessia,
Thanks a million you are both so kind really, have been looking for books for so long and get dh to check every time he is on a business trip. Anyway he is back from another one tomorrow so will have a chat with him and see what he thinks, he may try his family again, maybe shame them into it  :P
Alessia, dd is almost 18 months, thanks for the websites, will have a look, great to have recommendations as though I do speak italian I don't know what books are available for kids.
Will let you both know,
Fiona

Fiona,
No problem. I really enjoy the one with the fables. They have almost all of the ones that we read in English to our daughter (9 months). I noticed on the Italian book website that there were books by American authors, but in Italian (like Richard Scary). Anyway, I'm sure you'll find something good. I typically just call my cousins and ask them to mail a few. I have a few board books but those really are for younger babies.

Let me know if you want more info...
And definitely let me know if you find anything good for your little one!

Hi Fiona
I recently bought some touch-feely books (in English) for my lo and i particularly enjoyed the "That's not my kitten",
"that's not my monster".... series. When i went to a xmas fair (in sydney) there was a book stand with the same books but in Italian. THey were fabulous. They are written by Fiona Watt and illustrated by Rachel Wells.

You can probably get more info from Usborne.com and click on Early Years. At least its a start
Hope thats helpful.
Susan

Fiona,
I spotted some 2nd-hand books while I was at the market on Saturday and bought them for you. They are in good condition and I have disinfected every page.
I'll see if I can still find some new ones for you though the next time I go to the supermarket.
Let me know where I can post them to you.

Ciao

Hi Sinead,
Sorry I keep seeming to miss posts on here for some strange reason, and usually answers to mine.
Anyway that's really brilliant of you and really kind. Wow, you didn't need to go to all the trouble of disinfecting them too but I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Dh is not here at the moment but probably tomorrow I will get his parents full address and pm it to you. Thanks so so much,
Fiona

Fiona,
I went to the suermarket yesterday and they had 10-15% off lots of books. I have found another bunch for you (5). Let me know where I can send them to. I also bought you one of the Fiona Watt books that Susan mentioned. I have one in English and didn't realise they did them in Italian too. It's title is "That's not my dolly..." - Dov'é la mia bambola?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Sinead
