Hello!

Just wanted to join in!  Owen is almost 9 months and I am now expecting #2.  I'm feeling great except for more hungry than normal.

I plan on bfing until ds is ready to wean, however, we are only doing two feeds a day right now so I'm hoping my supply will hold out.  (the other two feeds are bottle)

Happy to join in with all you lovely mamas.

You dark horse Jodie! When were you planning on telling me?! Congratulations!!! My advice is eat something small every 2hours and try and have an afternoon nap as this can really help with supply.  Of course you'll allready be drinking loads so I dont need to tell you that. Your milk will turn into colostrum at around 20weeks ready for the next baby but dont be suprised if it happends anytime before. Unfortunatly for me it's come as a bit of a shock to no longer be BF Jacob, prepare yourself emtionaly for the worst but I expect Owen will be a good boy and continue nursing for ages yet. I so pleased for you I know how much you wanted this  :)

Hey Nome!  I announced it in the pregnancy forum and I see that you found it.

What do you ladies take for supplements?  I was taking my prenatal pills for bfing, but am I to start taking folic acid now as well?

Thanks!

Congratulations, Jodie. It's really nice to have so many mums going through things at the same time to share experiences and concerns with.

Re the folic acid I too take the pregnacare.

Things going pretty smoothly for me at the moment. No major symptoms to deal with and boobs much less sensitive than they were ... finally ;). Just can't wait for the first scan on Tuesday to see if there is really anything there. Then I can get down to the next worry of Downs Syndrome and waiting for those tests to be done. Nothing like having something to think about all day is there?! There's always something (with me, anyway).

Take care all

Charlie

Jodie, I haven't seen the announcement yet, but congrats!!!  :D

I take extra folic acid in addition to the small amount in my prenatals since I have had two m/c, just in case of conception. The weeks prior to and just after conception are the most important for this. I agree with Nome about the napping, it helped my supply tremendously and also helped me keep up with Grace - she was 8m when I was pg with Max.

Ladies, keep it up! You're doing awesome!

Jodie -
I would echo the nap thing! I try and at least lay down and get my feet up for that hour in the afternoon, even if I don't want to sleep, though I often end up sleeping!

As for prenatals - I would talk to your dr asap on it - my dr prescribed a stronger prenatal as I am preg and nursing. Though she also gave me a bunch of samples and they will get me thru to my next appt and I am going to ask her about them as they are $$$$$$$ $112 for 3 mo is the cheapest place I have found. She should have all my lab work back and I will ask her how that looks and if I need to stronger ones or can stay on my regular ones.

My prenatals, even Walmart variety have folic acid in them, do yours have any already? If not I would supplement with some - it certainly would not hurt!

As for us, we are still nursing quite a bit during the day - anywhere from 4-6 times and then once or twice at night. The last couple nights he dropped one of the feeds on his own, so that is good I guess - I am enjoying the extra block of sleep!
My goal right now is to get him to a year and then see where we are - how I am feeling, how he is doing and how the milk supply is going and then either work on weaning or let him nurse as long as he wants. I have a feeling he will be hard to wean as he LOVES his milk and right now could not understand if I told him no.

Just curious- any of you experienced moms - did you end up tandem nursing at all? Just wondering how it worked and all........

We do have a mom who has tandem nursed. I did not, my dd weaned herself when I was pregnant. She was all about the milk and not the breast.

You would have a ton of support for tandem nursing at LLL forums!

I know a mom that nursed through her whole pregnancy and after she had her baby her son saw her "new" daughter nursing.  He said "Mommy, me too" so she invited him up onto the hospital bed and offered her breast.  He nursed for 2 minutes and never asked to nurse again.  She said it was as if he knew he could so he didn't have to.

Just thought I would share that, I love that story.

I will call my dr tomorrow and try to get in, if all else fails, I will just ask when ds goes for his needle next week about the folic acid.  My prenatal pills do have folic acid, but I will double up until I'm sure.

I am an awful napper and always have been, but today I managed about 40 minutes.  I will continue to try or at least lay down and read a book to ensure I'm getting some relaxing done.

So happy to have you all for support.

Congratulations Jodie!  Great news!

CaedensMama - I tandem nursed my two for nearly 6 months, until about 1 month ago (I initiated the weaning, not dd1).  It was lovely for dd1 and I to have that quiet special time together.  I didn't feel like it was 'too much', since we were down to only one feed a day anyway.  Well, sometimes it did, but not too often  ;).  Of course it was harder in the beginning with a newborn, but I did really look forward to nursing my older child, especially since it was so effortless (compared with a newborn)!  I never had any nipple pain second time round, and I reckon it was because I was still nursing another 'baby' (first time round was agony!).  And having my toddler there to nurse when I was really engorged was soooo great!

I wanted to continue nursing dd1 for longer, and to me, having another baby was not a reason, in itself, to stop.  So that's why I tandem nursed.

Thanks Denise and Stacy - I am not sure if we will wean before Nov or keep going. I am going to see how he is doing and how the milk supply is doing. I know they will occassionally wean themselves if the milk is low, so I am prepared for that, but if he shows no interest in weaning I am open to continue and I am finding it to be a valid option and I am getting all the info I can! I would like to get the feeds down to maybe just a couple though - I don't think I could handle nursing 2 all day long! Maybe first thing in the morning and before bed or something like that! We'll see what happens.

Just finished "Adventures in Tandem Nursing" put out by LLL - it is WONDERFUL and I would highly recommend it for anyone, even just finishing up nursing while preg - has great info on the heath and nutririon aspect as well as nursing 2.

Hi ladies, just wanted to join in. I am pregnant and due in the end of December. We are still nursing here, fortunately I can't complain of any nipple soreness, I also have a good apetite. The only problem I experienced until now is sleeplessness, quite oposite to what was in my first pregnancy. I noticed a slight drop in my supply, there is less in the evenings but well, that's life, isn't it.

Welcome Monika, and congratulations.

Glad to hear you are not suffering too much. I too experience some sleeplessness at night but actually don't feel any more tired for it in the mornings. I did used to have to go for a nap during the day when my ds napped during the first few weeks but that phase has passed. Hope the rest goes just as well for you.

Went for my dating scan yesterday and they confirmed that there is indeed a living little baby in there, and that there is only the one of them!! Good news indeed. :)

Congratulations Monika and Nome! (I sneaked a quick look at this thread and what exciting news!) ;D

Congratulations to Jodie too!

It looks like being a bf mod has some magic powers. We'd better watch out Carter's mama!

Just wanted to add congrats Monika!
Haven't seen you around much  - guess you have been busy!  ;) ;)

How often is Anna nursing these days?

I am feeling rotten today, I think it is just morning sickness. But I am not keeping anything down, am sipping a little hot lemon and honey and that is doing okay so far. I hope it stays down cause I really don't feel like going out to the store to get gatorade or ginger ale to keep fluids okay.
