Whats going on?
« on: March 04, 2006, 22:18:01 pm »
We started d/f with my 11 week (14lb) lo last week. Before this she was going to bed at 8pm and sleeping to 2 am then up again around 5.30. Well now she has the d/f at 10.30 and the first night woke at 4.45, the next 4.30, 3.30, 3.00 and last night 2am!!

Basically all the d/f has done is given her another feed that I need to wake up for. Does it get worse before it gets better?

I don't have a problem waking during the night to feed her but I don't see how this d/f has helped. She is now back to waking every 3 hours at night and drinking 4oz each time so obviously hungry.

Have I just picked a bad week to start? Could this be a growth spurt? Or should I just assume that the d/f is not working

Clare

Sometimes it can take up to a week to implement...if you can't get him to take it within 5-10 minutes I would put him back down right away.  If you find after about a week of trying, that it's just not working I would then concentrate on the clusterfeeding instead.  The dreamfeed sometimes takes a few days to get established, I'd recommend that if its not working, you drop it for a week or 2, and then try it again.

You know I really do think it might be a growth spurt. She has slept remarkably well today, and she is finishing off her bottles of 5 oz every 3 hours. Usually it's an effort to get her to drink 4 oz every 4 hours.

I will continue with the d/f for another week and see what happens.

I have also just realised that I have already posted this question earlier this week. I honestly thought I had dreamt doing it, not actually done it!!!  lol oh Mr Sandman please find us soon.

I agree that it could be a growth spurt.  When I started my DS with dream feed, he was waking up at different times as well.  I added a few oz to each feed, 6 oz throughout the day, 8 oz before bed, and he was consuming 8 oz for DF.  Once he got past that he barely takes 3 oz for DF now.

Just hang in there..=)

The exact thing happened to us when I tried to implement a dreamfeed. And I came to the conclusion Brandon was going through a growth spurt. So I stopped the dreamfeed because we got soooooooo off schedule and decided to try it again once our schedule got back on track. I've also heard that if your baby is waking up every night at the same time you could start your dreamfeed an hour before she wakes up and slowly move it back until it's at a time you want. I

Success!!!

After 3 nights of waking every 3 hours to eat, last night and the night before she went to bed at 7.30, had a d/f of 5 oz at 10.30 and slept until 5am. Not bad for an 11 week old.

I have actually got a headache from too much sleep.
