Just turned 3 Months and feeding has decreased...help!!
« on: March 05, 2006, 04:46:09 am »
Hi, my dd feeding has changed in the past week. She was on the 3EASY so we switched to the 4EASY just because she used to drink 5-6oz and is barely drinking, between 2-3oz at a feeding. She does nothing but turn her head and arch her back. She has never done this before in any of her feedings and now she is starting to refuse. It is really frustrating as feeding used to be easy and now it is difficult. I am using Avent disposables just so you can squeeze the air out and we switched from #2 to #3 nipple flow and she still continues. We also changed formula as of today from Enfalac to Nestle Good Start, but so far still the same. Does anyone think maybe she went through a growth spurt and is back to her original feeding amounts. Also how long does a growth spurt last and at what ages do they have them. Can anyone give me any advice? Thank you........

Just a quckie reply,

What made you chnage to a 4hr EASY? Has this only happened since you switched?

The fact that she turns her head from it suggests does does not want it at all, archin ger back suggests a wind or gas issue, have you taken her to a doctor? DOes she spit up any milk you have given her?

A growth spurt, tend to be if they are taking MORE formula and waking at night for more as well.

Sorry, I know its more questions...

Well if she's eating less than it's probably not a growth spurt.  During growth spurts they usually consume more than usual.  When you changed the formula did you gradually change it? or was it a sudden change?  I know that my Ped suggested that if I change formula I should gradually change it by adding one feed of the new formula the first day.  2nd day add another feed, you want to see if your LO will take the new formula 1st.

My DD did the same thing around the same time i really worried about it at the time but it soon stopped when diagnosed with reflux so we changed to a thicken formaula and things went back to normal again after that. So i agree if you are worried go and see your doctor about it to see if their are any medical causes for it.

Calum'm mom- We swithched to the 4EASY because she all of a sudden would do this when she was on 3EASY. We never had a problem with the 3EASY ever since she was born. When she turns her head from side to side she is still latched onto the bottle, and will still be hungry everytime I offer it to her. As to your question if she spits up after I give her the formula......No she doesn't.

Question.......is it possible a baby will get tired of a certain formula as they grow? My dd has always been a hiccup queen and gassy from day one. Does anyone know if this formula I am giving her is making her gassy ???

Thankyou everyone for your replies! :)

Hi

Can you take a look at these posts and let me know if this sounds like your situation?  If you are positive it is not wind (arching back)

It was only when you mentioned about the 2 6oz feeds she will happily take  ??? I thought of these posts.

Hi! I know this is such a difficult time. I remember all to well. We used Good Start formula. You need to wait a week or so before you will see changes. Did the problems begin with the new formula? If so, then maybe you need to switch back. From what I know Good Start is the easiest on babies tummies. So if you had gas problems before, they may get better with the change to Good Start.

The fussing while feeding: Leah was always a VERY fussy eater. I actually moved her routine around so she was getting her bottles before her naps becuase like you, she only ate well when calm and relaxed (nightime etc.) This helped us tremendously. EASY can have varatrions as long as you don't feed to sleep. So our EAS was ESAESA. I would turn the lights off in Leah's room, sit with her in the chair, feed her, then change her, then lay her down for her nap. Just a thought. My DD is also very spirited, so she needed to eat in a calm and relaxed place.

HTH, let us know how it is going.

I am maybe thinking it could be wind? :-\ What can I do to help her besides burping. From day one she had always been an anxious drinker. You could actually feel the air go in her tummy as she drank. Not always does she burp. I have used Ovol but it seems it doesn't work as good as it used to work on her. Does anyone know if there is another remedy I can use for her gas ??? Thanks

It could be wind. That may explain why she takes more in the night - she is more relaxed - so she takes in less air. I have heard that Gripe Water works well for wind. Otherwise some people say Mylicon Gas drops added to the bottle work - although I have heard that some people think they are worthless. HTH
