What is a good feeding schedule for a 6 mo??
« on: March 05, 2006, 14:45:16 pm »
Hi

I started my daughter Maeve on solids at about 5 mo - just for one meal a day.  My pedi says we should transition her to 3 solid meals a day but I'm having trouble figuring out WHEN to give her the solids.  My mother says that she always gave solids and liquids at the same time but it seems like everyone who adheres to the Baby Whisperer separates the liquid and solid feedings.  Does anyone have a sample schedule?  She is definitely ready for some more solids during the day - she has been waking up in the middle of the night and taking a full feed!!  This is what we are doing now:

7-7:30        wake up and breast feed
9:00-11:00  nap
11:00         breastfeed
1:00-3:00   nap
3:00          solids - 4 oz of cereal plus 2.5 oz of fruit
5:00-6:00   cat nap some time in here
7:00          formula bottle

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Patty

HI Patty! My dd is 6.5 mos old and this is roughly what we do. A lot of it has to do with when I am able to feed her due to my other 2 children. But it's working pretty well and I need to add a lunchtime feed in there. She usually has cereal pretty soon after bf. In the morning I am trying to feed her, then take ds to school, then feed her cereal soon after. She doesn't last long in the morning before she's ready to sleep again. In the late afternoon she bf and then cereal right after.

7:30 am wake up and bf
8:30 or 9 rice cereal and fruit
nap
12 or 12:30 bf
activity
nap
3:30 or 4 bf
rice cereal and veggies right after
usually stays awake here
7:30 or so bf and bed

Hi There,
My DS is 6.5 months old and has been on solids for about a month.  We do solids in the morning and at dinner time right now.  I will soon be adding lunch as well.  We are not always on the schedule below, it depends on how long his naps are etc.  Hope this helps.

7/7:30  Wake and BF
8/8:30  Cereal and fruit or veggies (approx 2tbsp each)
9/9:30  Nap
11/11:30  BF
1/1:30  Nap
3/3:30  BF
5/5:30  Cereal and veggies  (He eats dinner with us)
7/7:30  BF
8  Bed

He still wakes in the night once for a feeding.  Once he has started taking 3 meals a day as well as BFing I am going to cut out the night feed.

Hi - Ds is just 7 months and for the past few weeks this has been working for us. If the naps are short then I do lunch earlier (11.30am ) or after the next nap (1.30pm)

7am - wake and b/f
8am - breakfast
9am - 10/10.30 - nap
11am - b/f
12pm - lunch
12.30pm - 2pm - nap
3pm - b/f
4.30pm - catnap (sometimes)
5.30 - dinner
7pm - b/f sleep

I found that betwen 6 amd 7 months it started to fall into place...at last

My Dd started solids at 4 months, then went to 2 meals at 4.5 months and three meals at 6 months. I won't show you my routine as she only has three bottles a day and 2 naps. But looking at your current schedule you could do this:

7-7:30   wake up and breast feed
8/8.30   Breakfast
9:00-11:00  nap
11:00  breastfeed
12:00  Lunch
1:00-3:00   nap
4:00/4.30 solids - 4 oz of cereal plus 2.5 oz of fruit
5:00-6:00  cat nap some time in here
7:00  formula bottle

Obviously you won't introduce all meals at the same time but when you do this are the times yo could do them. Hope this helps.

Wow... that was just what I was looking for!  Thanks for answering my question before I asked it.  We just started cereal on Saturday and I am also working around the older one's schedule.  I think the 7 bf and then 8 meal may work for us, since we have to be out of the houes at 8:30 (or so) 3 days a week.  Do you follow the solids at 8 with breast milk?  (or any of the solids... I think the book says yes...)
Thanks

I usually do not bf again after solids unless she had a light feed the before. But usually not.
