Help Needed! baby over tired wont go to sleep!
« on: March 07, 2006, 19:11:36 pm »
Jessicas 15weeks and its hard to get her to nap int he day. Yesterday she only had 40mins from 6.30am until 7pm - this is really unusual though at about 6pm she just screemed until dh finally got her to sleep by rocking. Today she has had about 2 day time naps only for about 40 mins again. I think we stimulate her too much as both me and my partner are at home and take it in turns so were always fresh to play some more -which im starting to realize is bad!
At the moment shes screaming again dh has her upstairs and just playing with a wind chime as that only seems to stop her crying. I tried putting her down in her cot which seemed to stop her being hysterical I sat by her and just shhd her but that didnt work either.
This isnt normal she normally naps about 4 times a day and then sleeps from 7 - 5am with a wake feed at 11pm then another feed at about 3am then another about 5-6. Her feeding has also gone crazy the last few days - I think she missed her 12w growth spurt. She had 40oz yesterday.
Also she had been teething from 8 weeks but they dont seem to bother her like they did before as now I use bonjela and that works a treat.

What can I do shes been crying for about 40mins now any suggestions? Ive tried readiing some other threads but getting confused!

Help!!
:-)

hi,

at this age babies typically get 14-15 hours of sleep; most 4 month olds have 3 naps; the first 2 being 1.5-2hrs each, and the 3rd being a catnap of about 45 min-1hr.

a typical day could look like this, if she is waking at 6:30:
6:30 wake
8-9:30 sleep
11/11:30-1:30 nap
3:30-4:30 nap
6 begin bedtime routine for 6:30pm bedtime

some other things that may help are establishing a wind-down routine, which helps clue her in that it's time to sleep.  you may also want to start introducing a lovey - something she gets when it's time to sleep.

here's a link to the sleep interview, which also has very good tips & advice:
