When do you start weaning off formula?
« on: March 07, 2006, 21:30:23 pm »
I have an 8.5 mo dd and she is only eating 2 meals of solids a day but not much at all.  She is still drinking about 6-7 oz of formula 4 times a day.  She isn't into baby food at all and will only eat yogurt with cereal and some fruit in it and some finger foods, but then for her dinner, she will maybe have a few puffs and some cheerios.  I try everyday for some veggies, and she refuses the babyfood veggies, and when I give her peas, carrots mixtures, avocado, etc.. she takes a bite and then refuses that too.  I am wondering if I feed her less formula, if she would eat more solids?  Is it too early to wean off formula?  I am nervous that I will wean her off of her formula and she STILL won't eat as many solids...

Thanks.

It's a bit too early to wean her from formula, it usually isn't advised until your baby turns 1. If she's still taking her bottles well, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Formula has all the nutrients she needs for now and solids are really just for practice and nutritional supplementation. If she's healthy and isn't losing weight, then it sounds like she's doing great! You'll likely find that her appetite will increase a bit as she gets older, too.
