There's usually a LOT going on at that age, so it's pretty normal for babies to lose interest in a feeding. It doesn't sound like he's eating too many solids, so that's probably not the issue. Could very well be teething or just too many distractions. Sometimes it helps to either cover him with a blanket while you're nursing (the way you would in public) or go into a room with less for him to look at. I agree with Karita, it's far too early for him to drop that feeding, and you might see his interest in it increase once he drops the dreamfeed. If teething is the problem, you might try using some numbing gel on his teeth (like Orajel) right before you nurse.
It's fairly easy to travel with homemade baby food. Get an insulated lunch bag and an ice pack and you're all set. You can use small plastic containers with lids or one divided plastic plate with a lid. Thawed food will stay cold for a few hrs, and frozen cubes will melt but still be cold after 6-7 hrs. If you need to heat them up, many places have microwaves or you can ask for cup of hot water at a restaurant and set the plate on top of the cup. IMHO, your best bet if you plan to eat on the go a lot is to get your LO used to eating cold or room temp food at home so you don't have to search for ways to heat it up when you're out.
