Rolling (almost!)
« on: March 11, 2006, 15:31:18 pm »
ds is almost six months old and can get about 3/4 of the way from back to front (his arms get in the way of a complete roll). he desperately wants to get from front to back, but just flexes his little neck, tries to push on his arms, and thrashes his legs. again, it seems that his arm (either bent and being pushed on, or down by his side) gets in the way of him rolling onto his back.

i don't want to force him before he's ready, but is there anything i can do to guide him into the wonders of rolling correctly?

i suspect that this topic must have been covered before; please feel free to link me to any appropriate posts that i couldn't find through searching.

thanks!

mrs. b.

My little one was in a similar situation, she kept rolling on to her side from her back, but hadn't realised that she needed to move the arm that was underneath her before she could roll onto her front.

I just left her to work this out for herself and she eventually rolled onto her front on the 25th February (she was around 5 and a half months).  Now if I leave her on her change mat because she seems content enough to stop there, she rolls over on her own with no problems,  I haven't forced her to try this, and left her to do this on her own.

My dd had (has) the same problem with her arms in the way of rolling from belly to back. I have been helping show her how to move her arms down by her side before rolling. She is starting to get the hang of it and is doing it on her own.  It is alot easier to start out on the bed (soft surface). That way when the baby rolls over her arm, it doesn't hurt her.  If she forgets..., I will roll her once and then roll her back over. Then she will roll by herself!!
