how do I break this cycle???
« on: March 12, 2006, 14:15:07 pm »
My 3 mo old son is on 3 hour EASY (most of the time!) He is still waking at night and around midnight (took 3 oz) and 3/4 (took 7oz) for feedings....I am doing all I can to give him lots during the day....recently I changed his nipple and this has helped.

I find at 7am he doesnt want to eat much - or even at 8am. He only took 2 oz this morning and of corse cut his nap short.

My question is this - How can I get my son to eat more during the day when he is still eating at night?? When he wakes at night hungry I feel like I need to feed him...but then I feel as if I will never break this cycle?!~
Please help!

It may give you some ideas, however at 3 months it is not uncommon for 2 night wakings. DS did nt drop one until 4 months old. It may be that you need to get a few extra oz's in during the day and give less at night, especially the last feed at 3/4am.

It won't be like this forever, 7oz is an auwful lot to be taking on a night feed, have you tried to cut it to 3 or 4oz??

Wow, Lauren, I had the exact same thoughts!!  I was even going to refer to that same plan Christine had posted about dropping the night feeds.  You are right that nightwakings are still common at 3 mos.  My only thought was that it might be habitual waking if it is the same time every night.  Or a growth spurt.
