Dream Feed-Worth introducing or not??
« on: March 12, 2006, 17:24:24 pm »
I am debating whether or not to introduce a df with my LO. I'll post our schedule and then my questions. We are transitioning to 4 hour Easy, but not there yet.
7:30 wake and E 4 oz.
9:00-11:00 nap
11:30 E 7-8 oz.
1:00-3:00 nap
3:30 E 7-8 oz.
5:00-5:45 nap
7:30 E 7-8 oz.
8:00 bed
around 3 am bottle 4 oz.

Here are my questions and why I am debating:  :)
1. I have heard conflicting info. that df should  come 4 hrs. after last feed, but before 11. With 7:30 feed, df would come at 11:30. Is this too late? We like the later bedtime b/c about 2-3 times a weeks we are out until 7 (church and church activities). So, with 8, we can stay more consistent.
2. We used to have a 1 or 2 am waking and have manage to extend our night stretch to 7 hours. She wakes after 7 hours and is truely hungry. I only give 4 oz. to tide over until morning. So, the 3 am and the 7:30 combined make one total bottle. Should I just work to extend night stretch to eventually combine the night and morning bottle.
3. She does good with 35 oz. So, if I can get her to take 4 8-9 oz. bottles a day, we will be there without the df.

So, mainly would it be better to introduce df now or work to extend our night stretch?

Thanks,
Angie

Angie from the information you have given I personally WOULD NOT start a d/feed at this stage. My reasons are:
Your DD seems to be already shifting her night feeds later at later. My DS did this around the same time, he dropped his 2am feed and moved the 5am feed, so I he was getting up once int the night at around 4am ish. A small feed 3oz would him to 7am. About 6 weeks ago the 4 am feed started getting later and later then suddenly she started sleeping through 3 weeks ago. Not to so , your Lo would follow the same pattern.

The dreamfeed should be done between 10-11pm, I haven't heard that is has to be 4hrs after, I have heard they shoudl be hungry so it shouldbn't be too close to the last feed.

I beleive Tracey also said in one of her books that LO's don't need a full tummy to sleep.
