When did you start feeding your lo "your grown up" food?!?!

When did you start feeding your lo your grown up food?  For example, if you make pot roast, or go to  buffet?  ETC... And what do you feed them in those type of categories?  Our lo is getting tired of Gerber  TV dinners, etc...

My ds is 13 months old and started refusing baby food the day after his first birthday.  I give him small cut up pieces of whatever we have for dinner.  I am starting to feel like the poor little man is eating the same things over and over again though.
He loves pasta with alfredo or red sauce, steamed veggies, he loves peas (how did I get so lucky?), grilled cheese sandwiches (small pieces) or turkey melt.  He will eat small pieces of meat too.  And he loves almost any fruit.
Good luck--it's very fun to watch your lo try new "grown-up" foods!

We started shortly after DS turned 1. We also just cut meat up into tiny bites. If we were having something spicy, I would just cook his without the spices.

Tyler's always eaten off our plates. When he was younger, we made sure it was age appropriate, but after he turned 1 we offered him just about anything we were having if it was healthy. He's gotten his own meal when we go out to eat since he was 10 mo or so...he started eating so much that neither of us wanted to share with him anymore. Now, we always offer him what we're eating and don't have any Gerber meals on backup. If I know he doesn't like what we're having or isn't in the mood to be adventurous, I'll make him something easy like a PBJ.

With both boys once the food we are eating is something he is used to they've eaten it... I just make it up to a consitencey they can cope with

Liam is now eating about 30% of what we do (he's almost 10months), but at the same age I think Aiden was probably eating about 50% & probably still is as he doesn't eat the spicier stuff we do. I just mash it up so Liam can eat it.. he eats less as I have yet to introduce Dairy. I've never really been able to give my boys "commercial baby food" & actually Liam likes his "lumpier" than the "age related stuff is"
Most books say that by age one they should be able to eat most table foods.

Nathan didn't really eat our food until after age 1. But Danielle from about 8mths, providing she'd been tested on the food types previously, I just made it the consistency that she was used to for each age. Probably a third of her meals are what we all eat, a third I make her and Nathan specifically - the others are a bulk made meal (a rice porridge with chicken and variety of veges in it) that I freeze for nights that she can't have what we are or I haven't thought about meals for her.

Thank you everyone.  Sounds like I have procrastinated a bit.  I was just nervous that what we were eating wasn't as good for him, but it will have to happen eventually.  He is starting to want what we have and baulks at the Gerber meals.

Tyler eating our food has been a HUGE motivator in getting DH and I to eat healthy foods. Now I only make dinners that would be appropriate for all of us to eat...I don't have to make a separate meal for Tyler, DH and I eat better, and we set a good example of healthy habits for Tyler. Does that mean we don't eat junk food? Uh, no. We just don't eat it for dinner or at a meal where we sit down together.

For us it was quite late and I wish I had tried sooner. There were two reasons I didn't give it before (started the change around 15 months ish) 1) I returned to work and wanted to leave home made pots of food that I knew she would eat 2) we weren't eating that well - a lot of junk. We didn't want to give that to her. We had to make a change and we have all eaten a lot better since but we slip sometimes and she ends up eating healthy whilst we have something not so healthy once she's in bed.

I think ds was around 10mo when he stopped baby jars altogether.  Since then he has often wanted to try a little of whatever we are having.  I agree with Melissa that it has made me and dh eat healthier.  Like Julie said we sometimes slip into bad habits too and then I cook ds something different.  Ds is now 2yo and I try to cook meals that we can all eat and to eat as a family.  Ds doesn't usually like things the first time trying it, so I usually wait a few days or more before I offer it again.  He's a pretty good eater now and although he has phases like any other 2 year old I try to keep meal times as stress free and positive as possible.  Have fun.
