Breastfeeding Chair
« on: March 14, 2006, 20:27:15 pm »
Hello

I am expecting my second baby and one of the things I would like to get (probably once feeding is established, just in case I get a bottlefeeder), is a decent chair where I can feed without hurting my back.
The main problem I had when feeding Alice was that most chairs are too high, so I couldn't hold her in the right position with my feet flat on the floor. I was either hunched over, had one foot up on tiptoes straining my calf, or I had sore shoulders holding her up to save my back.

I have seen the new specially designed breastfeeding chair on the Mothercare website and it looks perfect, but it's £279!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone have any reccommendations? I'm considering buying a cheap dining chair from Ikea and sawing a couple of inches of the legs!

I saw the Mothercare chair too and thought it looked gorgeous. Can you ask for a 'baby shower chair fund' or sell some stuff and save up?

What about a footstool?  I have a nursing stool that I use with my comfy chair and it works perfectly.

I'm with Erin on the footstool! I bought a lovely nursing chair for dd's room and I think I've used it twice! I usually feed her on the sofa during the day and found I had the same problem so I use a footstool to raise my legs so I don't hunch over.

I also found that the footstool was the answer! You could always get a second hand one and have it reupholstered

Hello

We managed to scoop a bargain on kiddicare.com - a Dutailer feeding chair & footstool for £170 all in - usually a LOT more than that. This was in July last year though ... it was the previous years stock but is lovely, supportive in all the right places and is reclining/rocking and sooo comfy!

Although it was expensive I have found it to be the single most useful thing we bought for our lo - i have spent many, many nights dozing in it with my boy (who is not a fan of sleeping!). Perfect for breastfeeding and looks good too.

the one problem i thought with the mother care chair was that there were no arm rests (if i have the right one in mind). I found that feeding for hours our LO got heavy and preferred to rest her on a pillow on the arm rests
